충북 제천시의회가 생활임금 조례 제정을 추진한다.
제천시의회는 25일 김수완 시의원이 대표 발의한 '제천시 생활임금 조례안'을 입법예고했다고 밝혔다.
생활임금은 제천시와 출자·출연기관, 시의 사무를 위탁받은 기관 소속 노동자에게 적용된다. 저임금 근로자의 생활안정을 위한 제도다.
조례 적용 기관이나 단체는 시 생활임금위원회가 정한 최저임금 이상의 임금을 지급해야 한다.
조례안은 생활임금 적용 대상과 생활임금위원회 구성 및 운영, 생활임금 결정과 고시 관련 규정을 담았다.
김수완 시의원은 "저임금 근로자의 기본적인 생활수준 보장과 복지향상을 위한 조례"라며 "생활임금이 민간 영역까지 확산돼 근로자의 생활이 안정되고 삶의 질이 개선되도록 노력하겠다"고 말했다.
충북도는 올해 생활임금을 시급 1만1803원으로 결정했다. 충주시는 지난 3월 생활임금 조례를 제정하고 내년 생활임금을 시급 1만1130원으로 정했다.

The Jecheon City Council in North Chungcheong Province is pushing for the enactment of a living wage ordinance.
The Jecheon City Council announced on the 25th that it had legislatively announced the 'Jecheon City Living Wage Ordinance' proposed by Council Member Kim Su-wan.
The living wage applies to workers belonging to Jecheon City, invested and contributed institutions, and institutions entrusted with city affairs. It is a system for stabilizing the lives of low-wage workers.
Institutions or organizations subject to the ordinance must pay wages above the minimum wage set by the city's Living Wage Committee.
The ordinance includes regulations on the scope of living wage application, composition and operation of the Living Wage Committee, and living wage determination and announcement.
Council Member Kim Su-wan said, "This is an ordinance to guarantee the basic living standards and improve the welfare of low-wage workers," adding "I will work to spread the living wage to the private sector so that workers' lives are stabilized and their quality of life improves."
North Chungcheong Province set this year's living wage at 11,803 won per hour. Chungju City, which enacted the living wage ordinance in March, set next year's living wage at 11,130 won per hour.
