캄보디아에서 사망한 20대 대학생이 같은 학교 선배의 '단기 아르바이트' 제안을 믿고 현지로 향한 것으로 확인됐다.

15일 취재를 종합하면 천안 소재 Y대학 재학생 A(22)씨는 지난 7월 같은 학교 선배의 캄보디아 단기 아르바이트 제안을 받고 현지로 출국했다.

A씨는 범죄조직에 감금된 후 폭행과 고문을 당해 목숨을 잃었다.

A씨를 캄보디아로 유인한 선배 B씨는 경찰 조사를 받고 있는 것으로 알려졌다.

A씨는 SNS를 통해 선배의 제안을 받은 후 항공권과 숙소를 제공받고 생활비를 지원받을 수 있다는 말을 듣고 캄보디아행을 결정한 것으로 파악됐다.

경찰은 국내 모집책 1명을 검거해 유인 경위와 현지 범행조직과의 연결고리를 추적하고 있다.

캄보디아 현지 검찰은 중국인 3명을 살인 및 사기 혐의로 기소했다.

Y대 관계자는 "경찰 수사 과정에서 이 사실을 알게 돼 당황스럽다"며 "학생들이 사적으로 움직인 일이라 아는 내용이 많지 않다"고 말했다.

이어 "무척 충격을 받았다"며 "경찰 조사를 지켜볼 예정이고 이 같은 일이 더 없기를 바란다"고 덧붙였다.

A university student in his 20s who died in Cambodia was confirmed to have traveled to the country following a "short-term part-time job" offer from a senior at the same school.

According to a comprehensive investigation on the 15th, A, 22, a student at Y University in Cheonan, left for Cambodia in July after receiving a short-term part-time job offer in Cambodia from a senior at the same school.

A was confined by a criminal organization and died after suffering assault and torture.

Senior B, who lured A to Cambodia, is known to be under police investigation.

It was found that A received the proposal from the senior via SNS, and decided to go to Cambodia after being told that airfare and accommodation would be provided and living expenses could be supported.

Police have arrested one domestic recruiter and are tracking the circumstances of the enticement and links to the local criminal organization.

Local prosecutors in Cambodia have indicted three Chinese nationals on charges of murder and fraud.

A Y University official said, "We were surprised to learn of this fact during the police investigation," adding, "We don't know much as the students moved privately."

The official added, "We were very shocked" and "We will watch the police investigation and hope that nothing like this happens again."
