충남도의회는 3일 천안축구센터에서 '충청남도 프로야구장 건립 방안 모색' 의정토론회를 개최했다.

◆ 프로야구 관중 1200만 시대, 충남은 불모지

이번 토론회는 올해 프로야구 관중이 1200만 명을 돌파하며 10년 만에 최다 기록을 세운 가운데, 충남이 여전히 프로야구 연고지가 없는 현실을 진단하고 야구장 건립 방안을 모색하기 위해 마련됐다.

박정수 의원(천안9·국민의힘)이 좌장을 맡았고, 정화성 미래발전기획정책연구원 대표가 발제했다. 이선영 충남야구소프트볼협회장, 장래홍 천안청룡동체육회 이사, 이병관 단국대 스포츠경영학과 교수, 진중록 천안시 체육진흥과장이 지정토론자로 참여했다.

◆ "스포테인먼트 정책·공동연고 구단 설립 필요"

정화성 대표는 발제를 통해 국내 프로야구 현황을 분석하고, 프로야구장 건립 효과와 구단 창설의 한계를 제시했다. 그는 "충남의 스포츠 인프라 확충을 위해 스포테인먼트(spo-tainment) 정책 추진과 공동연고 기반 구단 설립이 필요하다"고 제안했다.

이선영 협회장은 타 지자체 사례를 제시하며 "프로야구장이 지역경제에 미치는 긍정적 효과가 크다"며 충남에도 전용구장과 프로야구단 설립이 필요하다고 주장했다.

◆ "야구 수요 급증…전용구장 건립 시급"

장래홍 이사는 "국민 여가문화가 다변화되며 야구 수요가 급증하고 있다"며 "충남도 역시 이에 맞는 야구장 건립이 시급하다"고 밝혔다.

이병관 교수는 프로야구 환경 분석을 통해 야구장 건립 타당성을 제시하고 구체적인 정책 방향을 제안했다. 진중록 과장은 "천안에 프로야구장을 건립한다면 지역 여론을 충분히 수렴하고 신중하게 접근해야 한다"고 설명했다.

◆ "수천억 원 경제 파급효과 창출 가능"

박정수 의원은 "전국 주요 도시들이 이미 프로야구장을 복합문화·상업시설로 발전시켜 지역경제 거점으로 삼고 있다"며 "야구는 단순한 스포츠가 아니라 지역 문화 수준과 정체성을 상징하는 생활문화이자 산업"이라고 강조했다.

그는 "프로스포츠 산업은 지역상권 활성화와 관광객 유입을 통해 수천억 원의 경제적 파급효과를 창출할 수 있다"며 "이번 토론회가 충남 프로야구 유치를 향한 첫걸음이자 체육도시 충남 도약의 전환점이 되길 바란다"고 밝혔다.

◆ Era of 12 million professional baseball spectators, Chungnam remains barren land

The forum was organized to diagnose the reality that Chungnam still has no professional baseball home territory despite this year's professional baseball attendance surpassing 12 million, setting a record high in 10 years, and to explore plans for baseball stadium construction.

Assemblyman Park Jeong-su (Cheonan 9, People Power Party) served as moderator, and Jeong Hwa-seong, CEO of Future Development Planning Policy Research Institute, presented the keynote speech. Lee Seon-young, President of Chungnam Baseball Softball Association, Jang Rae-hong, Director of Cheonan Cheongryong-dong Sports Association, Professor Lee Byeong-gwan of Dankook University's Department of Sports Management, and Jin Jung-rok, Director of Cheonan City Sports Promotion Division, participated as designated discussants.

◆ "Need for spo-tainment policy and joint-home-based team establishment"

CEO Jeong analyzed the current status of domestic professional baseball in his presentation and presented the effects of professional baseball stadium construction and limitations of team creation. He proposed that "to expand Chungnam's sports infrastructure, it is necessary to promote spo-tainment policy and establish a joint-home-based team."

President Lee cited cases from other local governments and argued that "professional baseball stadiums have a significant positive effect on the local economy," claiming that Chungnam also needs a dedicated stadium and professional baseball team.

◆ "Surge in baseball demand... Urgent need for dedicated stadium construction"

Director Jang stated, "As national leisure culture diversifies, baseball demand is surging," adding that "Chungnam Province also urgently needs baseball stadium construction to meet this demand."

Professor Lee presented the feasibility of baseball stadium construction through professional baseball environment analysis and proposed specific policy directions. Director Jin explained, "If a professional baseball stadium is built in Cheonan, we must fully gather local public opinion and approach it carefully."

Assemblyman Park emphasized, "Major cities nationwide have already developed professional baseball stadiums into complex cultural and commercial facilities, making them hubs of the local economy," adding that "baseball is not simply a sport but a living culture and industry that symbolizes the region's cultural level and identity."

He stated, "The professional sports industry can generate hundreds of billions of won in economic ripple effects through local commercial area revitalization and tourist attraction," adding, "I hope this forum becomes the first step toward attracting professional baseball to Chungnam and a turning point for the leap forward of Chungnam as a sports city."
