◆ 청주공항 여객 466만명으로 역대 최대
청주국제공항이 지난해 여객 466만명을 넘어서며 역대 최대 기록을 경신했다. 9일 한국공항공사 항공통계자료에 따르면 지난해 청주공항 이용객 수는 466만9956명으로 집계됐다. 국내선 272만7895명, 국제선 194만2061명이다. 기존 최대 실적인 2024년의 457만9221명을 넘어섰다. 2년 연속 400만명 돌파 기록이다. 이는 지방공항 TOP4의 상징적 지표인 2019년 대구국제공항 연간 이용객(466만9057명)을 넘어선 수치다.
◆ 국제선·운항 편수도 역대 최다
국제선 이용객 수는 194만2061명으로 2024년의 146만8685명을 크게 웃돌며 역대 최대 기록을 갈아치웠다. 운항 편수도 지난해 2만9864편(국내선 1만6166편, 국제선 1만3698편)으로 집계됐다. 1년 전의 2만8387편 대비 5.2%(1477편) 증가해 역대 가장 많았다. 지난해에는 여객 터미널 내에 한식당, 패스트푸드점, 카페 등 8개의 식음료 시설이 새롭게 문을 열어 이용객 편의를 개선했다.
◆ 제2주차빌딩·터미널 증축 등 인프라 확충 추진
청주공항은 증가하는 항공 수요 충족을 위해 기반 시설 확충에 속도를 내고 있다. 주기장은 오는 10월까지 13곳에서 17곳으로 늘린다. 제2주차빌딩은 2028년 완공을 목표로 주차면 1400여대를 확보할 계획이다. 여객터미널 확장의 경우 국내선은 내년 착공하고, 국제선은 내년 실시설계를 추진한다. 공항을 중심으로 충청권 광역 급행철도(CTX)사업, 충북선 철도 고속화 사업, 천안청주공항 복선전철 사업, 잠실청주공항 광역철도 사업, 영동오창(진천) 고속도로 사업, 오창괴산 고속도로 사업 등도 추진 중이다. 민간 전용 활주로 신설사업은 사전타당성조사를 앞두고 있다. 충북도는 민·관·정 협력을 기반으로 제7차 공항개발 종합계획에 해당 사업을 반영시킬 계획이다. '청주공항 특별법' 제정에도 역량을 결집해 대응할 방침이다. 이혜옥 충북도 균형건설국장은 "청주공항이 대구공항 역대 최대 이용객 기록을 넘어 가파른 성장세를 보이며 2년 연속 이용객 400만명을 돌파한 것은 매우 의미 있는 일"이라며 "민간전용 활주로 건설을 통해 국가 균형발전은 물론 청주공항이 세계로 뻗어나가는 허브공항이 될 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다"고 말했다.

◆ Cheongju Airport Reaches All-Time High with 4.66 Million Passengers
Cheongju International Airport set an all-time record by surpassing 4.66 million passengers last year. According to Korea Airports Corporation aviation statistics data on the 9th, Cheongju Airport recorded 4,669,956 passengers last year. This includes 2,727,895 domestic passengers and 1,942,061 international passengers. This exceeded the previous record of 4,579,221 passengers in 2024. It marks the second consecutive year surpassing 4 million passengers. This figure also exceeds the symbolic benchmark for TOP4 regional airports: Daegu International Airport's annual passengers of 4,669,057 in 2019.
◆ International Passengers and Flight Operations Also Reach All-Time Highs
International passengers reached 1,942,061, far exceeding the 1,468,685 in 2024 and setting an all-time record. Flight operations totaled 29,864 last year (16,166 domestic, 13,698 international). This was a 5.2% increase (1,477 flights) compared to 28,387 the previous year, the highest ever. Last year, 8 new food and beverage facilities including Korean restaurants, fast food outlets, and cafes opened in the passenger terminal to improve passenger convenience.
◆ Infrastructure Expansion Including Second Parking Building and Terminal Extension
Cheongju Airport is accelerating infrastructure expansion to meet increasing aviation demand. The number of aircraft parking spots will increase from 13 to 17 by October. The second parking building aims for completion in 2028 with approximately 1,400 parking spaces. For passenger terminal expansion, domestic terminal construction will begin next year, and international terminal detailed design will proceed next year. Projects centered on the airport include the Chungcheong Metropolitan Express Railway (CTX) project, Chungbuk Line railway high-speed project, Cheonan-Cheongju Airport double-track railway project, Jamsil-Cheongju Airport metropolitan railway project, Yeongdong-Ochang (Jincheon) expressway project, and Ochang-Goesan expressway project. The civilian-only runway construction project is awaiting preliminary feasibility study. North Chungcheong Province plans to include this project in the 7th Airport Development Master Plan based on private-public-government cooperation. The province also plans to focus all efforts on enacting the 'Cheongju Airport Special Act.' Lee Hye-ok, Director of Balanced Construction at North Chungcheong Province, said, "It is very meaningful that Cheongju Airport has shown steep growth exceeding Daegu Airport's all-time passenger record and surpassed 4 million passengers for two consecutive years," adding, "We will do our best to ensure Cheongju Airport becomes a hub airport reaching out to the world through civilian-only runway construction as well as national balanced development."
