◆ CTX·JTX 청주 관통 중부권 광역철도 시대 연다

충북 청주시에 광역철도와 고속도로망이 집결하며 중부권 교통 지도가 바뀐다. 충청권 광역급행철도(CTX)가 민자적격성 조사를 통과하며 본격 추진 단계에 돌입했다. CTX는 정부대전청사에서 세종, 오송역, 청주 도심을 거쳐 청주국제공항까지 연결하는 총연장 64.4km 노선이다. 2028년 착공을 목표로 후속 절차를 진행한다. 수도권내륙선 광역철도(JTX)도 수도권 남부와 청주공항을 연결한다. 천안청주공항 복선전철이 개통되면 수도권 주요 도시에서 청주공항까지 환승 없이 1시간대 이동이 가능해진다. 충북선 고속화 사업과 평택오송 고속철도 2복선화도 청주의 철도 허브 기능을 강화한다.

◆ 청주국제공항 458만명 이용 지방공항 4위 기록

청주국제공항이 중부권 대표 공항으로 도약한다. 2024년 연간 이용객 458만명을 기록해 지방공항 중 4위에 올랐다. 국제선 이용객도 역대 최고치를 경신했다. 청주시는 여객터미널과 주차장을 확충한다. 항공정비와 물류·관광이 결합된 에어로폴리스를 개발해 공항 경쟁력을 높인다.

◆ 고속도로망 완성되면 충북 전역 반나절 생활권 진입

고속도로망도 청주를 중심으로 재편된다. 세종포천고속도로 오송지선, 세종청주 고속도로, 영동진천 고속도로가 잇따라 추진된다. 충청내륙고속화도로까지 완성되면 충북 전역이 청주 중심 반나절 생활권에 들어선다. 도시 내부에서는 3순환로 전 구간이 개통됐다. 주요 교차로 입체화로 도심 교통 흐름도 개선됐다. 청주시는 방사형 도로망과 스마트 교통체계를 구축해 충청권 메가시티 중심도시로 자리매김한다는 계획이다.

CTX is a 64.4km line connecting Government Daejeon Complex to Cheongju International Airport via Sejong, Osong Station, and downtown Cheongju. Follow-up procedures proceed with a target groundbreaking in 2028. The Metropolitan Inland Line Express Railway (JTX) also connects southern Seoul metropolitan area to Cheongju Airport. Once the Cheonan-Cheongju Airport double-track railway opens, transfer-free travel within one hour from major Seoul metropolitan cities to Cheongju Airport becomes possible. The Chungbuk Line speed upgrade project and Pyeongtaek-Osong KTX double-tracking also strengthen Cheongju's railway hub function.

◆ Cheongju International Airport Records 4.58 Million Users Ranking 4th Among Regional Airports

Cheongju International Airport leaps forward as the representative airport of the central region. It recorded 4.58 million annual passengers in 2024, ranking 4th among regional airports. International passengers also set an all-time high. Cheongju City expands passenger terminals and parking facilities. The city develops Aeropolis combining aviation maintenance, logistics, and tourism to enhance airport competitiveness.

◆ Entire Chungbuk Enters Half-Day Living Zone Upon Expressway Network Completion

The expressway network is also reorganized around Cheongju. Sejong-Pocheon Expressway Osong Branch, Sejong-Cheongju Expressway, and Yeongdong-Jincheon Expressway are pursued consecutively. Once the Chungcheong Inland Expressway is completed, the entire Chungbuk region enters a half-day living zone centered on Cheongju. Inside the city, the entire section of Ring Road 3 opened. Grade separation of major intersections also improved downtown traffic flow. Cheongju City plans to establish itself as the central city of Chungcheong Megacity by building radial road networks and smart transportation systems.
