◆ 수봉초, 전국 릴레이 캠페인 참여

충북 음성군 수봉초등학교가 독립운동가 보재 이상설 선생의 서훈 승격을 염원하는 전국 릴레이 캠페인에 동참했다. 김인숙 교장이 캠페인을 이끌었다.

◆ 이상설 선생, 헤이그 특사로 활동한 독립운동가

보재 이상설 선생은 1870년 충북 진천에서 태어났다. 선생은 1907년 광무황제의 특사로 이준, 이위종과 함께 헤이그 만국평화회의에 파견됐다. 선생은 국권회복을 위한 외교활동을 펼쳤으며 1917년 서거했다. 대한민국 정부는 1962년 선생에게 건국훈장 대통령장(2등급)을 추서했다. 최근 대한민국장(1등급)으로 상향해야 한다는 의견이 이어지면서 전국 릴레이 캠페인이 펼쳐지고 있다.

◆ 김인숙 교장, 다음 주자로 맹동초 교장 지목

김인숙 교장은 "광복 80주년이라는 뜻깊은 해에 민족의식을 일깨우고 근대적 교육관을 가지고 독립운동을 하셨던 이상설 선생의 업적은 교육사적으로 매우 큰 의미가 있다"고 밝혔다. 김 교장은 "선생의 공적을 올바르게 평가해야 한다"고 강조했다. 김 교장은 다음 릴레이 주자로 맹동초등학교 교장을 지목했다.

◆ Lee Sang-seol, Independence Activist Who Served as Hague Envoy

Bojae Lee Sang-seol was born in Jincheon, Chungbuk Province in 1870. He was dispatched to the Hague Peace Conference in 1907 as a special envoy of Emperor Gwangmu along with Lee Jun and Lee Wi-jong. He engaged in diplomatic activities for the restoration of national sovereignty and passed away in 1917. The Korean government posthumously awarded him the Order of Merit for National Foundation Presidential Medal (2nd class) in 1962. Recently, opinions calling for an upgrade to the Order of Merit for National Foundation (1st class) have emerged, leading to a nationwide relay campaign.

◆ Principal Kim In-suk Nominates Maengdong Elementary Principal as Next Runner

Principal Kim In-suk stated, "In this meaningful year marking the 80th anniversary of liberation, the achievements of Lee Sang-seol, who awakened national consciousness and engaged in the independence movement with a modern educational perspective, hold great significance in educational history." Principal Kim emphasized, "His contributions must be properly evaluated." She nominated the principal of Maengdong Elementary School as the next relay runner.
