코트라(KOTRA)는 19일 중미경제통합은행(CABEI) 한국 사무소에서 국내 기업의 중미 프로젝트 참여 확대를 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다고 밝혔다.
이번 협약은 CABEI 최초의 여성 총재 히셀라 산체스의 첫 방한 일정에 맞춰 이뤄졌다.
◆ CABEI, 신용등급 AA+로 상향
1960년 설립된 CABEI는 한국 등 15개 회원국이 참여하는 다자개발은행으로, 중미 지역의 경제통합과 개발을 지원한다. 국제 신용평가사 S&P는 최근 CABEI의 장기 신용등급을 AA에서 AA+로 상향했다.
한국은 2019년 역외회원국으로 가입해 9%의 지분을 보유하고 있다.
중미 지역은 노후 인프라 개보수와 에너지 전환 수요가 큰 만큼 재생에너지, 인프라 개발, 제조 플랜트 등 대규모 프로젝트가 지속 발생한다. 많은 사업이 CABEI, 세계은행(WB), 미주개발은행(IDB) 등 다자개발은행(MDB) 지원으로 추진돼 국내 기업 진출 기회가 확대되고 있다.
◆ 탈탄소·수자원·폐기물 관리 분야 협력
양 기관은 이번 협약을 통해 CABEI 프로젝트 참여 촉진, 공동 세미나 개최, 코트라 글로벌 네트워크를 활용한 탈탄소·수자원·폐기물 관리 분야 기업 발굴 등을 추진한다.
기후 대응, 지속가능 인프라, 디지털 전환(DX) 분야에서 조달 기회를 강화하는 데 협력할 방침이다.
코트라는 이어 열리는 MDB 프로젝트 플라자 행사에 CABEI를 초청해 포럼·세미나 연사 참여와 기업 상담회를 진행한다.
협약식에는 김명희 코트라 부사장이 참석해 산체스 총재와 MOU에 서명했다. 김 부사장은 "이번 협력을 계기로 국내 기업의 중미 프로젝트 참여를 적극 지원하겠다"고 말했다.

Seoul=Heo Jae-won, Reporter = The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) announced on the 19th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) at CABEI's Korea office to expand Korean companies' participation in Central American projects.
This agreement was made during the first visit to Korea by Gisela Sanchez, CABEI's first female president.
◆ CABEI Credit Rating Upgraded to AA+
Established in 1960, CABEI is a multilateral development bank with 15 member countries including Korea, supporting economic integration and development in Central America. International credit rating agency S&P recently upgraded CABEI's long-term credit rating from AA to AA+.
Korea joined as a non-regional member country in 2019 and holds a 9% stake.
Central America has significant demand for aging infrastructure renovation and energy transition, with large-scale projects continuously emerging in renewable energy, infrastructure development, and manufacturing plants. Many projects are promoted with support from multilateral development banks (MDBs) such as CABEI, the World Bank (WB), and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), expanding opportunities for Korean companies.
◆ Cooperation in Decarbonization, Water Resources, and Waste Management
Through this agreement, both organizations will promote participation in CABEI projects, hold joint seminars, and utilize KOTRA's global network to discover companies in decarbonization, water resources, and waste management fields.
They plan to cooperate in strengthening procurement opportunities in climate response, sustainable infrastructure, and digital transformation (DX) sectors.
KOTRA will invite CABEI to the upcoming MDB Project Plaza event to participate in forum and seminar presentations and conduct corporate consultations.
At the signing ceremony, KOTRA Vice President Kim Myung-hee attended and signed the MOU with President Sanchez. Vice President Kim stated, "With this cooperation as an opportunity, we will actively support Korean companies' participation in Central American projects."
