박선원 더불어민주당 의원에 따르면 국정원은 국회 정보위원회 현안 보고에서 "캄보디아 스캠 범죄단지는 프놈펜과 시아누크빌을 포함해 총 50여 곳이며, 범죄종사자는 약 20만명으로 추산된다"고 설명했다.

이날 국회에서 국가정보원은 22일 캄보디아 내 스캠 범죄조직에 가담한 한국인이 최대 2000명에 이를 것으로 추정된다고 밝혔다.

국정원은 "현지방문 인원 및 스캠단지 인근 한식당 이용 등을 고려하면 범죄에 가담한 피의자는 1000명에서 2000명가량"이라고 밝혔다.

캄보디아 경찰청은 지난 6월과 7월 사이 검거한 스캠범죄 피의자 3075명 중 한국인 57명을 적발했다.

국정원은 최근 캄보디아에서 사망한 한국인 대학생 사건 주범이 2023년 서울 강남 학원가 마약사건 총책의 공범으로 확인됐다고 밝혔다.

이재명 대통령은 국정원에 "조직 사활을 걸고 캄보디아 스캠 범죄를 해결하라"는 특별지시를 내렸다고 박 의원이 전했다.

NIS: "Up to 2,000 Koreans Involved in Cambodian Scam Crime Organizations"

The National Intelligence Service announced on the 22nd that up to 2,000 Koreans are estimated to be involved in scam crime organizations in Cambodia.

According to Rep. Park Sun-won of the Democratic Party of Korea, the NIS explained in a current affairs report to the National Assembly Intelligence Committee that day, "There are a total of about 50 scam crime complexes in Cambodia, including Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville, and the number of criminals is estimated to be about 200,000."

The NIS stated, "Considering the number of local visitors and use of Korean restaurants near scam complexes, the number of suspects involved in crimes ranges from 1,000 to 2,000."

The Cambodian National Police caught 57 Koreans among 3,075 scam crime suspects arrested between June and July.

The NIS revealed that the main culprit in the recent death case of a Korean university student in Cambodia was confirmed to be an accomplice of the head of the 2023 Seoul Gangnam academy district drug case.

President Lee Jae-myung issued a special directive to the NIS to "stake the organization's fate on solving Cambodia's scam crimes," Rep. Park said.
