충북 진천군이 K-스토리 창작 산업의 전국적 거점으로 자리 잡았다. 2024년 6월 개관한 진천 K-스토리창작클러스터는 창작 단계에서 산업화까지 연결하는 한국 스토리 산업의 핵심 허브로 성장했다.
◆ 전국 8대 1 경쟁률, 창작의 메카 부상
올해 클러스터 레지던시 사업에서 배출한 입주 작가는 2기, 3기를 통해 총 20명이다. 전국에서 169명이 지원했으며 경쟁률은 8대 1이다. 참가자의 90%가 다른 지역 출신으로 클러스터가 전국적 창작 거점임을 입증했다.
입주 작가 중에는 영화 '극한직업'(관객 1,600만 명), '한산: 용의 출현'(관객 1,200만 명), '노량: 죽음의 바다', 뮤지컬 '사랑의 하츄핑' 등 국내 주요 흥행작에 참여한 현업 작가들이 포함됐다. 입주 기간 집필한 작품들은 대한민국 최대 웹소설 출판사 작가컴퍼니, 글로벌 웹툰 플랫폼 네이버웹툰과 정식 계약을 체결했으며 국내 주요 출판사를 통해 단행본으로 출간됐다.
◆ 1,072명 참여 교육, 현장 전문가 강단에 올라
K-스토리 창작교류 프로그램은 전국 대학, 기업, 공공기관 27개 기관과의 협력으로 12월 말 기준 1,072명이 참여했다. 영화 '작업의 정석' 오기환 감독, 장편소설 '곰탕'과 영화 '헬로우고스트' 김영탁 감독, 유튜버 구혜원(구독자 120만 명), 배우 김홍표 등 산업 현장의 실무 전문가들이 강의했다.
전국 유일의 스토리 창작 해커톤 '슈퍼루키 해커톤'은 올해 3회 개최되어 148명이 참가했으며 29명이 수상했다. 웹소설, 웹툰, 출판 3개 분야에서 진행됐으며 수상작 일부는 전자책 출판과 주요 플랫폼 입점이 추진 중이다. 제2회 전국 K-스토리 공모전은 충북 역사와 명소를 소재로 진행했으나 전국에서 70여 편이 출품되었고 단 2년 만에 전국 대표 스토리 공모전으로 자리 잡았다.
◆ 부산영화제 초청, 2026년 세계로의 도약 준비
클러스터에서 발굴한 영화 '완벽한 집'(배우 배종옥, 장규리 주연)은 제30회 부산국제영화제 공식 초청작으로 선정됐으며 2026년 상반기 전국 개봉이 확정됐다. 진천에서 탄생한 스토리가 국내를 넘어 국제 영화제로 향하는 첫 사례다. 주요 OTT 플랫폼에 공개된 웹콘텐츠 '흡식기담'(배우 조성하, 예수정, 백성현 출연)도 클러스터 연계 작품으로 화제를 모았다.
2026년 클러스터는 창작자 IP의 투자·제작을 연계하는 프로그램 '스토리 피치'를 추진한다. AI 기반 스토리 번역, OTT 기획, IP 매니지먼트 등 콘텐츠 산업 핵심 직무 교육을 강화할 계획이다. 강선미 진천군 문화관광과장은 "진천 K-스토리창작클러스터는 국토 중심이자 전국 유일의 스토리 창작 전문 레지던시 시설"이라며 "한국을 넘어 세계로 향하는 문화 혁신의 등대로 우뚝 서도록 최선을 다하겠다"고 말했다.

◆ 8-to-1 Competition Ratio Marks Emergence as National Creative Center
The cluster's residency program produced a total of 20 resident writers through its second and third cohorts this year. The program received applications from 169 candidates nationwide, recording an 8-to-1 competition ratio. With 90 percent of participants from other regions, the cluster has proven itself a national creative hub.
Among the resident writers are veteran creators who contributed to major Korean blockbusters including the film "Extreme Job" (16 million viewers), "Hansan: Rising Dragon" (12 million viewers), "Noryang: Death Has No Mercy," and the musical "Love Ha-Choo-Ping." Works written during their residencies resulted in formal contracts with Writer Company, Korea's largest web novel publisher, and Naver Webtoon, a global webtoon platform. Several works were published as printed books by major domestic publishers.
◆ 1,072 Participants in Educational Programs with Industry Professionals
The K-Story Creative Exchange Program achieved strong participation with 1,072 attendees as of late December, in collaboration with 27 institutions including universities, corporations, and public organizations nationwide. Industry professionals including director Oh Gi-hwan ("The Art of Making"), director Kim Young-tak ("Gomtang" and "Hello Ghost"), YouTuber Koo Hye-won (1.2 million subscribers), and actor Kim Hong-pyo delivered lectures.
The "Super Rookie Hackathon," Korea's only story creation hackathon, was held three times this year with 148 participants, resulting in 29 award winners. Competitions were conducted in three categories: web novels, webtoons, and publishing, with winning works in the process of publication and platform placement. The second national K-Story Contest, held on themes of Chungbuk's history and landmarks, received 70 submissions nationwide and has established itself as a leading national story contest in just two years.
◆ Busan Film Festival Selection Signals Global Expansion
The film "Perfect House" (starring Bae Jong-ok and Jang Gyu-ri), discovered by the cluster, was selected as an official invitation to the 30th Busan International Film Festival, with a nationwide release scheduled for the first half of 2026. This marks the first instance of a story originating in Jincheon entering the international film festival stage. The web content "Hyupshikki" released on major OTT platforms (featuring actors Cho Sung-ha, Ye Joo-jung, and Baek Sung-hyun) also generated attention as a cluster-affiliated work.
In 2026, the cluster plans to launch "Story Pitch," a program linking creator IP with investment and production. The cluster will strengthen education in core content industry fields including AI-based story translation, OTT planning, and IP management. Kang Sun-mi, director of the Jincheon County Culture and Tourism Department, stated, "Jincheon K-Story Creation Cluster is the nation's only dedicated story creation residency facility at the center of the country. We are committed to ensuring it stands as a beacon of cultural innovation extending beyond Korea to the world."
