◆ 다문화·외국인가구 현황
충남도가 30일 '2025 다문화·외국인가구통계'를 발표했다. 통계에 따르면 2024년 기준 충남도 다문화가구는 2만 3498가구다. 도 전체 100만 7652가구의 2.33%를 차지한다. 외국인가구는 4만 1692가구로 4.1%다.
다문화가구 비율은 인천 2.5%, 경기 2.34%에 이어 전국 3위를 기록했다. 외국인가구 비율은 전국 1위다. 전국 평균은 다문화가구 1.9%, 외국인가구 3.0%다. 두 가구 모두 최근 5년간 증가 추세를 보인다.
◆ 다문화 가구원 및 경제활동
다문화 가구원은 6만 8417명이다. 전체 도민 223만 8243명의 3.1%다. 외국 국적별로 베트남이 3848명(28.9%)으로 가장 많다. 중국(한국계) 3063명(23.0%), 중국 2041명(15.3%) 순이다.
다문화가구 출생아 수는 638명이다. 도 전체 출생아 9436명의 6.8%를 차지한다. 다문화 가구원 종사자는 3만 3989명이다. 상시근로자가 2만 121명(59.2%)으로 가장 많다. 산업별로 제조업 종사자가 1만 479명(30.8%)으로 최다다. 건설업 4498명(13.2%), 숙박 및 음식점업 3551명(10.4%)이 뒤를 잇는다.
◆ 외국인 가구원 및 역할
외국인 가구원은 9만 2049명이다. 전체 가구원의 4.2%다. 국적별로 중국(한국계) 2만 2202명(24.1%), 베트남 1만 5903명(17.3%), 우즈베키스탄 8082명(8.8%) 순이다. 체류자격별로 재외동포가 2만 5889명(28.1%)으로 가장 높다.
외국인 종사자는 6만 4107명이다. 상시근로자 3만 9022명(60.9%)이 최다다. 산업별로 제조업 종사자가 3만 2284명(50.4%)으로 절반 이상을 차지한다. 외국인 인력이 충남 제조업 기반 경제에서 핵심 역할을 담당한다.
충남도는 2023년부터 2년 주기로 통계를 작성한다. 이번 2회차 통계는 2023년 11월 1일 기준이다. 인구·가구, 인구동태, 경제활동, 자산, 복지, 교육 6개 부문 89개 지표를 담았다.
충남도 관계자는 "도내 다문화·외국인가구 현황을 체계적으로 파악했다"며 "지역사회 구성원으로 함께 성장할 수 있도록 실질적 지원 정책을 발굴하겠다"고 밝혔다.

Chungcheongnam-do released the '2025 Multicultural and Foreign Household Statistics' on the 30th. According to the statistics, multicultural households in Chungcheongnam-do totaled 23,498 as of 2024. This accounts for 2.33% of the province's total 1,007,652 households. Foreign households numbered 41,692, representing 4.1%.
The multicultural household ratio ranked 3rd nationwide, following Incheon at 2.5% and Gyeonggi at 2.34%. The foreign household ratio ranked 1st nationwide. The national average stands at 1.9% for multicultural households and 3.0% for foreign households. Both household types show an increasing trend over the past 5 years.
◆ Multicultural Household Members and Economic Activities
Multicultural household members totaled 68,417 people. This represents 3.1% of the total provincial population of 2,238,243. By foreign nationality, Vietnam had the most with 3,848 people (28.9%). China (Korean descent) followed with 3,063 people (23.0%), then China with 2,041 people (15.3%).
Births in multicultural households numbered 638. This accounts for 6.8% of the province's total 9,436 births. Multicultural household workers totaled 33,989 people. Regular employees numbered 20,121 (59.2%), the highest. By industry, manufacturing workers led with 10,479 people (30.8%). Construction followed with 4,498 people (13.2%), then accommodation and food services with 3,551 people (10.4%).
◆ Foreign Household Members and Their Role
Foreign household members totaled 92,049 people. This represents 4.2% of total household members. By nationality, China (Korean descent) led with 22,202 people (24.1%), Vietnam with 15,903 people (17.3%), and Uzbekistan with 8,082 people (8.8%). By residence status, overseas Koreans numbered 25,889 (28.1%), the highest proportion.
Foreign workers totaled 64,107 people. Regular employees numbered 39,022 (60.9%), the most. By industry, manufacturing workers totaled 32,284 (50.4%), accounting for more than half. Foreign workers play a key role in Chungnam's manufacturing-based economy.
Chungcheongnam-do compiles statistics every 2 years since 2023. This 2nd edition is based on November 1, 2023. It includes 89 indicators across 6 sectors: population and households, population dynamics, economic activities, assets, welfare, and education.
A Chungcheongnam-do official stated, "We systematically identified the status of multicultural and foreign households in the province," adding, "We will develop practical support policies so they can grow together as members of the local community."
