◆ 교통사고 사망자 36명 감소, 전국 1위
충북은 교통사고 사망자 감소 활동 지표에서 전국 1위를 차지했다. 평가 기간(2023년 11월~2024년 10월) 교통사고 사망자 수는 150명에서 114명으로 36명 줄었다. 전년 대비 24.0%포인트 감소해 역대 최고 감소율을 기록했다. 차순위 경찰청보다 6.4%포인트 낮은 수치다.

충북경찰청은 도민의 높은 교통법규 준수 의식과 관계기관 협조를 바탕으로 연초부터 종합 대책을 추진했다. 음주운전과 이륜차 폭주, 소음 유발 행위 등 고위험 법규 위반에 대해 관계기관과 함께 집중 단속을 실시했다. 끼어들기 등 5대 반칙 운전을 주제로 한 홍보 영상과 홍보물을 제작·배포해 교통질서 확립에 주력했다. 출퇴근 시간대 상습 교통 정체 구간에 교통 경찰을 배치하고 신호 체계를 최적화했다.
◆ 어린이 통학로 안전 시설 대폭 확충
어린이 통학로 안전 확보를 위한 특수 시책도 높은 평가를 받았다. 충북경찰청은 노란색 방호 울타리 설치를 40개소에서 72개소로 80% 확대했다. 노란색 횡단보도는 39.2%, 기점·종점 노면 표시는 42.2% 증가시켰다. 충북경찰청 관계자는 "이번 1위 성과는 도민과 현장 교통 경찰 모두의 노력 덕분"이라며 "안전한 충북을 만들기 위해 최선을 다하겠다"고 밝혔다.
