◆ 개발협력 대표기관 최초 ISO 14001 인증
코이카(KOICA, 한국국제협력단)가 기관 설립 이래 최초로 한국준법진흥원으로부터 국제 환경경영시스템 'ISO 14001' 인증을 획득했다. 개발협력 대표기관으로서 전사적으로 환경과 기후변화에 대한 인식을 높이고 이를 조직문화로 정착시키고자 지속적으로 추진해 온 노력이 국제적으로 인정받은 성과다.
◆ 환경방침 수립·임직원 참여 캠페인 추진
코이카는 환경방침을 수립하고 업무 프로세스 전반에 환경영향 평가 기준을 반영하는 한편, 에너지 절감과 자원순환 확대, 폐기물 분리배출 강화 등 다양한 실천 활동을 추진해왔다. 특히 사내 임직원 참여형 캠페인인 '바이바이 CO₂ 챌린지' 등을 통해 일상 속 탄소 감축 행동을 장려하고 친환경 실천 문화를 확산해 왔다. 인증 획득 과정에서 임직원들의 자발적 참여와 인식 제고도 큰 역할을 했다. 코이카는 최근 국내 생태학 분야 권위자인 최재천 교수를 초청해 환경·기후변화 특강을 진행하는 등 구성원들의 환경 감수성을 높이기 위한 교육을 꾸준히 이어가고 있다.
◆ 지속 가능한 미래 위한 환경경영 강화
장원삼 코이카 이사장은 "ISO 14001 인증은 코이카 전 임직원이 환경과 기후의 중요성을 본격적으로 고민하고 실천하는 의미 있는 출발점"이라며 "앞으로도 국제개발협력 대표기관으로서 환경적 책임을 다하고 지속 가능한 미래를 만들어 나가겠다"고 밝혔다. 코이카는 이번 ISO 14001 인증을 계기로 환경경영을 지속적으로 강화하고 조직 운영 전반에 걸쳐 온실가스 감축과 자원 효율화 등 실질적인 개선 활동을 이어갈 계획이다. 임직원 참여형 프로그램을 확대해 모든 구성원이 환경적 책임을 체감하고 실천할 수 있는 여건을 조성해 나갈 방침이다.

◆ First ISO 14001 Certification for Leading Development Cooperation Organization
KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) has obtained 'ISO 14001' international environmental management system certification from the Korea Compliance Promotion Agency for the first time since its establishment. This achievement internationally recognizes the organization's continuous efforts to raise awareness of environment and climate change throughout the organization and establish it as an organizational culture as a leading development cooperation organization.
◆ Establishment of Environmental Policy and Employee Participation Campaign
KOICA has established environmental policies, reflected environmental impact assessment standards throughout business processes, and promoted various practical activities including energy conservation, resource circulation expansion, and strengthened waste separation. In particular, it has encouraged carbon reduction actions in daily life and spread eco-friendly practice culture through in-house employee participation campaigns such as the 'Bye Bye CO₂ Challenge'. Employees' voluntary participation and awareness raising played a significant role in the certification process. KOICA has been continuously conducting education to enhance members' environmental sensitivity, including recently inviting Professor Choe Jae-cheon, a domestic authority in ecology, for special lectures on environment and climate change.
◆ Strengthening Environmental Management for Sustainable Future
KOICA President Jang Won-sam stated, "ISO 14001 certification is a meaningful starting point for all KOICA employees to seriously consider and practice the importance of environment and climate," adding "We will continue to fulfill our environmental responsibilities as a leading international development cooperation organization and create a sustainable future." KOICA plans to continuously strengthen environmental management with this ISO 14001 certification as an opportunity and continue practical improvement activities such as greenhouse gas reduction and resource efficiency throughout organizational operations. The organization plans to expand employee participation programs to create conditions where all members can feel and practice environmental responsibility.
