충북도는 11월 4일 청주시 흥덕구 오송읍 오송바이오폴리스지구에서 수소가스안전 허브센터 착공식을 열었다. 수소경제 생태계 조성의 전초기지 역할을 할 국가단위 거점시설이다.
허브센터는 2027년 상반기 준공을 목표로 총사업비 255억 원을 투입한다. 오송읍 봉산리 일원에 지하 2층, 지상 6층, 연면적 5,300여㎡ 규모로 건립된다. 정부의 수소경제 활성화 정책에 발맞춰 수소산업의 안전관리, 인력양성, 기술교류를 통합 지원한다.
◆ 수소안전 협력 플랫폼 가동
센터는 수소 분야의 정책·연구·자문회의와 세미나를 운영한다. 인력양성과 수소경제 진흥을 위한 프로그램도 진행한다. 기후에너지환경부, 한국가스안전공사, 충북도, 청주시가 협력하는 수소안전 협력 플랫폼을 가동할 예정이다.
가스안전공사 인재개발부와 수소인력양성 전담 조직이 함께 입주한다. 국가 수소안전 핵심 인재 양성 거점 역할도 기대된다.
◆ K-수소안전의 중심지로 성장 기대
김두환 충북도 경제통상국장은 "이번 허브센터 착공을 계기로 충북 오송이 K-수소안전의 중심지로 성장하길 기대한다"고 말했다. 그는 "수소경제를 선도하는 핵심 지역으로 자리매김할 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
허브센터는 수소산업 안전관리의 국가단위 거점으로 수소경제 활성화에 기여할 전망이다. 충북도는 센터 건립을 통해 지역 수소산업 생태계를 강화한다는 계획이다.

North Chungcheong Province held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Hydrogen Gas Safety Hub Center on November 4 at the Osong Biopollis District in Osong-eup, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju City. The facility will serve as a national hub and an outpost for creating a hydrogen economy ecosystem.
The hub center aims for completion in the first half of 2027 with a total project cost of 25.5 billion won. The center will be built in the Bongsan-ri area of Osong-eup with 2 basement floors, 6 above-ground floors, and a total floor area of approximately 5,300㎡. In line with the government's hydrogen economy activation policy, the center will provide integrated support for safety management, workforce training, and technology exchange in the hydrogen industry.
◆ Hydrogen Safety Cooperation Platform Launched
The center will operate policy, research, advisory meetings, and seminars in the hydrogen field. The center will also run programs for workforce training and hydrogen economy promotion. A hydrogen safety cooperation platform will be launched with cooperation among the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, Korea Gas Safety Corporation, North Chungcheong Province, and Cheongju City.
Korea Gas Safety Corporation's Human Resources Development Department and a dedicated hydrogen workforce training organization will move in together. The center is expected to serve as a hub for nurturing national hydrogen safety core talent.
◆ Expected to Grow as the Center of K-Hydrogen Safety
Kim Du-hwan, Director of Economic and Trade Bureau of North Chungcheong Province, said, "With this hub center groundbreaking as an opportunity, we expect Osong in North Chungcheong Province to grow as the center of K-hydrogen safety." He added, "It will establish itself as a core region leading the hydrogen economy."
The hub center is expected to contribute to hydrogen economy activation as a national hub for hydrogen industry safety management. North Chungcheong Province plans to strengthen the regional hydrogen industry ecosystem through the center construction.
