홍성교육지원천, 홍성여중, 제1회 김기영문학상 공모전 입상자 발표

◆ 검소한 삶과 나눔 정신 기리는 문학상 제정

홍성여자중학교(교장 홍성기)는 11월 3일 제1회 홍성여자중학교 김기영문학상 공모전 입상자를 발표했다.

홍성여중 김기영장학회와 국어교과협의회는 지난 7월 이 문학상을 제정했다. 김기영 여사(1932~2017)의 검소한 삶과 나눔의 정신을 기리고 인성교육에 활용하기 위해서다.

◆ 2개월간 50여 편 응모...6편 선정

이번 공모전은 '글쓰기를 통한 인성과 인문학적 감수성 키우기'를 목적으로 진행했다. 홍성여중 재학생을 대상으로 자유 주제의 시와 수필을 2개월간 모집했다.

총 50여 편이 응모됐다. 심사위원회(위원장 양경숙 홍성여중 국어교사)는 심사를 거쳐 최종 6편을 입상작으로 선정했다.

◆ 김우겸, 시 '성장통'으로 금상

입상자는 다음과 같다.

▲금상: 시 '성장통' 김우겸(2학년) ▲은상: 시 '기억의 도서관' 박가빈(2학년), 시 '착각' 고서연(1학년) ▲동상: 시 '생명' 장수연(2학년), 시 '소묘' 김민아(3학년), 수필 '풋사과' 김도현(3학년)

금상 수상자 김우겸(2학년)은 새로운 시작의 두려움과 용기를 섬세하게 그린 시 '성장통'을 썼다.

◆ 금상 수상자에 장학금 20만 원

김기영장학회는 금상 수상자에게 장학금 20만 원을 수여한다. 시상식은 일반 김기영장학금 수여식과 함께 12월에 열린다.

입상 작품은 학교 누리집에서 볼 수 있다. 11월 말까지 교정에 시화전 형식으로 전시한다.

김우겸 학생은 "부족한 점이 많은 시라고 생각했는데 당선되어 신기하고 기쁘다"며 "소외된 자가 견뎌내는 모습을 생각하며 썼다. 내 시를 읽은 모두에게 따스한 봄이 찾아오길 바란다"고 말했다.

◆ 김기영 여사, 전 재산 장학금 기부

김기영 여사는 2019년 평생 검소하게 살며 모은 전 재산을 홍성여중에 장학금으로 기부했다. 형편이 어려운 학생과 예체능 분야에 재능 있는 학생을 지원하기 위해서다.

현재까지 약 300명의 홍성여중 학생이 김기영 장학금을 받았다.

홍성여중은 문예창작 연계 인성교육 차원에서 김기영문학상을 매년 이어갈 계획이다.

◆ Literary Award Established to Honor Simple Life and Spirit of Sharing

Hongseong Girls' Middle School (Principal Hong Sung-ki) announced the winners of the 1st Hongseong Girls' Middle School Kim Ki-young Literary Award on November 3.

The Kim Ki-young Scholarship Association and Korean Language Department Cooperative Council at Hongseong Girls' Middle School established this literary award in July. The award honors the simple life and spirit of sharing of the late Kim Ki-young (1932-2017) and applies them to character education.

◆ Over 50 Entries Submitted During 2-Month Period...6 Works Selected

This competition aimed to "develop character and humanities sensitivity through writing." The school collected poems and essays on free topics from current students at Hongseong Girls' Middle School over a two-month period.

A total of over 50 works were submitted. The judging committee (Chairperson Yang Kyung-sook, Korean language teacher at Hongseong Girls' Middle School) selected six works as winners after deliberation.

◆ Kim Woo-kyum Wins Gold Prize with Poem 'Growing Pains'

The winners are as follows:

▲Gold Prize: Poem 'Growing Pains' Kim Woo-kyum (2nd grade) ▲Silver Prize: Poem 'Library of Memories' Park Ga-bin (2nd grade), Poem 'Illusion' Go Seo-yeon (1st grade) ▲Bronze Prize: Poem 'Life' Jang Su-yeon (2nd grade), Poem 'Sketch' Kim Min-ah (3rd grade), Essay 'Green Apple' Kim Do-hyun (3rd grade)

Gold prize winner Kim Woo-kyum (2nd grade) wrote the poem 'Growing Pains,' which delicately depicts the fear and courage of new beginnings.

◆ Scholarship of 200,000 Won for Gold Prize Winner

The Kim Ki-young Scholarship Association will present a scholarship of 200,000 won to the gold prize winner. The award ceremony will be held in December along with the general Kim Ki-young scholarship presentation ceremony.

The winning works can be viewed on the school website. They will be displayed on campus in poetry exhibition format until the end of November.

Student Kim Woo-kyum said, "I thought my poem had many shortcomings, so I am surprised and happy to be selected. I wrote it thinking about how marginalized people endure. I hope a warm spring comes to everyone who reads my poem."

◆ Ms. Kim Ki-young Donated Entire Fortune as Scholarship

Ms. Kim Ki-young donated her entire fortune, accumulated through a lifetime of simple living, to Hongseong Girls' Middle School as a scholarship in 2019. The donation supports students from difficult circumstances and students with talent in arts and physical education.

To date, approximately 300 students at Hongseong Girls' Middle School have received Kim Ki-young scholarships.

Hongseong Girls' Middle School plans to continue the Kim Ki-young Literary Award annually as part of character education linked to creative writing.
