충북도가 국비 150억 원을 확보해 천연물 산업 육성 기반을 마련한다. 22일 충북도는 천연물소재 전주기 표준화 허브 구축 사업이 순조롭게 진행되고 있다고 밝혔다.
충북도는 2024년 농림축산식품부 공모사업에 최종 선정됐다. 총사업비는 350억 원이다. 내년 초 건축공사를 시작해 2028년 완공한다. 현재 실시설계를 진행 중이다.
충북도는 제천시 왕암동 제2바이오밸리에 센터를 짓는다. 부지는 7,260㎡, 건축면적은 6,270㎡다. 제조공정 표준화시설, 분석·검증시설, 세척·건조·보관시설을 구축한다.
충북에는 건강기능식품, 의약품 등 천연물 관련 기업 500여 개가 있다. 제천을 중심으로 원료제조 거점시설, 완제품 생산시설이 조성돼 있다. 사업지 인근에는 3,949천㎡ 규모의 제천바이오밸리가 있다.
충북도와 제천시는 2003년 전국 최초로 천연물산업 육성을 시작했다. 2013년부터 천연물 조직배양 상용화시설, 완제품 시생산시설, 천연물 지식산업센터를 구축했다. 2020년에는 전국 최초로 천연물 관련 조례를 제정했다. 2025년에는 제천국제한방천연물산업엑스포를 추진한다.
권영주 충북도 바이오식품의약국장은 "지난 20여 년간 1,521억 원을 투자해 인프라를 구축했다"며 "농가와 기업의 협력모델을 개발하고 표준화시스템을 완성하겠다"고 말했다. 그는 "제천을 거점으로 북부권 바이오산업을 발전시켜 도내 균형발전에 기여하겠다"고 덧붙였다.

Chungbuk Province secured 150 billion won in state funding to build infrastructure for natural material industry development. On the 22nd, Chungbuk Province announced that the full-cycle natural material standardization hub construction project is progressing smoothly.
Chungbuk Province was selected for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs public contest in 2024. The total project budget is 350 billion won. Construction will begin early next year and complete in 2028. Design work is currently underway.
Chungbuk Province will build the center at the 2nd Bio Valley in Wangam-dong, Jecheon City. The site covers 7,260㎡ with a building area of 6,270㎡. The center will include manufacturing process standardization facilities, analysis and verification facilities, and cleaning, drying and storage facilities.
Chungbuk hosts approximately 500 companies related to natural materials including health functional foods and pharmaceuticals. Raw material manufacturing facilities and finished product production facilities are established centered in Jecheon. The 3,949 thousand㎡ Jecheon Bio Valley is located near the project site.
Chungbuk Province and Jecheon City began natural material industry development in 2003, the first in the nation. Since 2013, they built natural material tissue culture commercialization facilities, finished product pilot production facilities, and a natural material knowledge industry center. In 2020, they enacted the nation's first natural material-related ordinance. In 2025, they are promoting the Jecheon International Oriental Medicine Natural Material Industry Expo.
Kwon Young-joo, Director of Bio Food and Medicine Bureau at Chungbuk Province, said, "We have invested 152.1 billion won over the past 20 years to build infrastructure." He added, "We will develop cooperation models between farms and companies and complete a standardization system." He also stated, "We will develop the northern bio industry centered on Jecheon to contribute to balanced development in the province."
