충남도의회가 22일 아산시 배방행정복지센터 대강당에서 경제 성장 지표를 넘어 시민 행복 중심의 도시정책을 논의하기 위한 토론회 자리를 마련했다.

토론회 좌장인 안장헌 의원(아산5·더불어민주당)은 "도시 발전은 숫자와 순위가 아닌 시민 일상 속 행복으로 증명된다"며 "시민 생각이 정책으로 이어지는 계기가 되길 바란다"고 밝혔다.

임준홍 충남연구원 선임연구위원은 '성장과 수치를 넘어 시민의 삶과 행복을'을 주제로 기조발제했다. 임 연구위원은 "아산은 제조업 비중 77%, 1인당 GRDP 1억 460만원(충남 평균 대비 162.3%)을 기록하는 산업 선도도시"라며 "인구 50만 명 대도시 진입을 목표로 성장 중이지만, 도시가 커진다고 삶이 자동으로 풍요로워지지 않는다"고 설명했다. 그는 "주거, 교통, 교육, 보육 돌봄, 공동체 등 삶의 질을 구성하는 요소들을 함께 점검해야 한다"고 강조했다.

토론자들은 아산을 '살고 싶은 도시'로 전환하기 위한 방안을 논의했다. 강희택 충남경제진흥원 일자리정책실장은 '아산시 일자리의 현재와 미래'를, 김형철 충남연구원 연구위원은 '아산시 광역 교통 인프라'를, 이병도 충남교육연구소장은 '아산의 교육'을 주제로 발표했다.

김영춘 전 공주대 부총장은 'AI시대, 지역이 함께 크는 교육'을 주제로 지역대학·산업·시민이 함께 성장하는 교육생태계의 필요성을 제시했다. 최솔 아산투데이 기자는 '지속가능 성장의 나침반, 도시브랜드 확립'을 주제로 "아산은 성장의 도시를 넘어 지속가능한 삶의 도시로 자리매김해야 한다"고 제언했다.

토론회 현장에서는 시민들이 '아산시의 미래는 ○○○입니다'라는 질문에 직접 답을 적는 참여 시간이 마련됐다. 시민들은 다양한 단어로 아산의 미래에 대한 기대를 표현했다.
