◆ 18일 270명 참여...달리기 프로그램 추가
연양초등학교(교장 정원식)는 지난 10월 18일, 전교생과 학부모, 교직원 등 약 270명이 참여한 가운데 '제6회 토끼와 거북이 달리기 축제'를 성황리에 개최했다. 올해 축제는 기존 자전거 축제에 '달리기(빠르게 걷기)' 프로그램을 새롭게 추가하여 더 많은 학생이 참여할 수 있도록 행사 운영 범위를 확대했다. 참가자들은 달리기와 자전거 타기를 통해 스트레스를 해소하고 가족과 함께 심신을 단련했으며, 기후 위기에 대응하는 친환경 생활 습관을 기르는 데 의미를 두었다.
◆ 5가지 코스 운영...수자원공사 지원금으로 풍성하게
이번 축제는 학생의 체력과 자전거를 타는 능력에 따라 달리기(제천보행교, 약 6㎞), 자전거 초급(용수천 코스모스길, 약 15㎞), 중급(금강수목원, 약 24㎞), 상급(석장리박물관, 약 34㎞), 최상급(공산성 앞 미르섬, 약 46㎞)의 다섯 코스로 운영됐다. 참가자들은 각자의 수준에 맞는 코스를 선택해 완주했으며, 출발 전에는 자전거 점검과 안전 수칙 안내, 준비 운동을 실시하고 헬멧 착용 등 안전 수칙을 철저히 준수했다. 이번 축제는 한국수자원공사 금강보관리단의 지원금으로 더욱 풍성하게 운영됐다. 지원금으로 친환경 실천을 장려하는 자전거 경품과 일회용품 사용을 줄이기 위한 걸이용 손수건을 마련해 참가자들에게 즐거움을 더했으며, 한국수자원공사와 협력하여 플로깅(쓰담달리기) 행사도 함께 추진하여 환경 보호와 지역사회 참여의 의미를 확장했다.
◆ 정원식 교장 "지속 가능한 미래 만들 것"
완주자에게는 이수증이 수여되었으며, 가족과 함께 목적지에서 찍은 인증사진으로 완주를 확인했다. 정원식 교장은 "달리기와 자전거 타기는 건강뿐 아니라 환경을 생각하는 실천의 출발점"이라며, "앞으로도 학생·학부모·교직원이 함께하는 생태 친화적 축제를 통해 지속 가능한 미래를 만들어 가겠다"고 밝혔다.

Participants completed courses suitable for their level, and before departure, bicycle inspections, safety guidelines, warm-up exercises were conducted, and safety rules such as wearing helmets were strictly observed. This festival was operated more abundantly with support from the Geumgang Weir Management Group of Korea Water Resources Corporation. The support was used to prepare bicycle prizes to encourage eco-friendly practices and hanging handkerchiefs to reduce disposable product use, adding joy to participants, and a plogging (picking up trash while running) event was also promoted in cooperation with Korea Water Resources Corporation, expanding the meaning of environmental protection and community participation.
◆ Principal Jung Won-sik "Will create sustainable future"
Completion certificates were awarded to those who completed the course, and completion was confirmed with verification photos taken at the destination with family. Principal Jung Won-sik said, "Running and cycling are starting points for practice that considers not only health but also the environment," and "We will continue to create a sustainable future through eco-friendly festivals that students, parents, and faculty participate in together."
