청주 오송 지하차도 참사와 관련해 기소된 공무원 8명이 법정에서 혐의를 전면 부인했다. 청주지법 형사5단독 강건우 부장판사는 7일 업무상과실치사상 혐의로 기소된 행복청 공무원 5명과 금강청 공무원 3명에 대한 첫 공판을 열었다. 공사 관계자 3명과 법인 2곳도 함께 재판에 넘겨졌다. 참사 발생 2년 6개월 만에 피고인들이 처음으로 법정에 섰다.

피고인들은 미호강 제방 공사 현장 관리·감독 소홀로 시공사의 무단 제방 절개와 부실 임시제방 축조를 방치한 혐의를 받고 있다. 행복청 광역도로과장 A씨 등의 변호인은 "실질적으로 여러 기관과 지휘부에 보고하지 않은 혐의도 있다"며 "모든 현장의 상황을 실시간으로 확인해 최선의 결과를 도출할 수는 없다"고 주장했다.

재판부는 피고인들이 모두 혐의를 부인하고 재판이 지연된 점을 고려해 주말과 월요일을 제외하고 6일 연속 재판을 이어가기로 했다.

The attorney argued, "It is impossible to monitor all site conditions in real-time and achieve the best results."

The court decided to hold trials for six consecutive days excluding weekends and Mondays, considering that all defendants denied the charges and the trial has been delayed.
