충북의 한 마라톤대회에서 참가 선수가 화물차에 치여 숨진 사고와 관련해 대회 안전관리 책임자가 검찰에 넘겨졌다.
◆ 송치 내용
충북경찰청은 8일 업무상 과실치사 혐의로 해당 마라톤대회 주관사인 충북육상연맹 관계자 A씨를 불구속 송치했다고 밝혔다.
◆ 사고 경위
A씨는 지난해 11월 10일 옥천군 동이면에서 진행된 마라톤대회에서 안전관리를 소홀히 해 청주시 직장운동경기부 소속 B(25)씨가 1t 화물차에 치여 숨지는 사고를 초래한 혐의를 받고 있다.
머리를 크게 다친 B씨는 병원으로 옮겨졌으나 뇌사 판정을 받았고, 연명치료를 받아오다 결국 숨졌다.
◆ 경찰 판단
경찰은 A씨가 대회 차량을 선수 뒤에 따라붙게 해야 하지만 관련 조치를 이행하지 않아 사고를 야기한 것으로 판단했다.
사고를 낸 1t 화물차 운전자 C(80대)씨도 교통사고처리특례법 위반(업무상 과실치사) 혐의로 불구속 송치됐다.

Safety Manager Referred to Prosecution After Marathon Runner Killed by Truck in Chungbuk
Failed to position escort vehicles behind runners; truck driver in 80s also referred
The safety manager of a marathon event in North Chungcheong Province has been referred to prosecution in connection with an accident that killed a participating runner who was struck by a cargo truck.
The Chungbuk Provincial Police Agency announced on January 8 that it referred A, an official from the Chungbuk Athletics Federation that organized the marathon, to prosecution without detention on charges of occupational negligence resulting in death.
A is accused of negligent safety management during a marathon held in Dongi-myeon, Okcheon-gun on November 10 last year, which resulted in the death of B, a 25-year-old member of the Cheongju City workplace sports team, who was struck by a one-ton cargo truck.
B suffered severe head injuries and was transported to a hospital but was declared brain dead. B passed away after receiving life-sustaining treatment.
Police determined that A caused the accident by failing to ensure that event vehicles followed behind the runners as required.
The driver of the cargo truck, C, who is in their 80s, was also referred to prosecution without detention on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents for occupational negligence resulting in death.
