충북도는 31일 청주공항 이용객 현황을 발표했다. 올해 들어 지난 28일까지 청주공항 이용객은 460만여 명을 기록했다. 지난해 연간 이용객 457만 9221명을 이미 넘어섰다. 연말까지 추가 증가가 예상된다. 대구공항은 같은 기간 339만 4764명에 그쳤다. 청주공항은 대구공항과 120만 명 이상 격차를 벌렸다.
◆ 국제선 급성장…100만 명 최단기간 돌파
국제선 이용객 증가세가 두드러진다. 청주공항 국제노선은 올해 기존 26개에서 35개로 확대됐다. 지난 8월 9일 국제선 이용객 100만 명을 역대 최단기간에 돌파했다. 10월 25일에는 누적 147만 5051명을 기록해 지난해 전체 실적 146만 8685명을 67일 앞당겨 넘어섰다. 청주공항은 올해 국제선 이용객 180만 명을 전망한다. 내년에는 200만 명 돌파도 가능할 것으로 본다.
◆ 인프라 확충…주기장 17곳·제2주차빌딩 조성
청주공항은 수요 증가에 대응해 인프라 확충에 속도를 낸다. 현재 13곳인 주기장은 내년 10월까지 17곳으로 확대된다. 제2주차빌딩은 2028년 완공을 목표로 1400여 대 규모로 조성된다. 여객터미널 확장 사업도 추진된다. 국내선 터미널은 내년 착공에 들어간다. 국제선 터미널은 실시설계가 진행될 예정이다.

Cheongju Airport projects 1.8 million international passengers this year. It expects to surpass 2 million next year.
◆ Infrastructure Expansion…17 Aprons and Second Parking Building
Cheongju Airport accelerates infrastructure expansion to meet rising demand. Aprons will expand from the current 13 to 17 by October next year. The second parking building will be constructed to accommodate approximately 1,400 vehicles with completion targeted for 2028. Passenger terminal expansion projects are also underway. Domestic terminal construction will begin next year. International terminal detailed design will proceed.
