최 시장은 현금 수수 의혹을 부인했다. 최 시장은 "당시 시당 위원장으로 사무실은 있었지만 별도 방은 없었다"고 말했다. 최 시장은 "모르는 사람이 현금을 주는 일은 상식적으로 납득하기 어렵다"고 강조했다. 최 시장은 "계좌 이체가 있었다면 대통령 선거 계좌로 입금됐을 것이고 나와는 무관하다"고 밝혔다. 최 시장은 "선관위 계좌 기록을 확인하면 될 것"이라며 "내가 직접 돈을 받은 사실은 없다"고 말했다.
