◆ 백제 온조왕 시대부터 시작된 2000년 역사
온양온천은 한국에서 가장 오래된 온천이다. 백제 온조왕 36년(서기 18년) 탕정성 축조 기록이 첫 등장이다. 탕정은 '끓는 물이 나오는 우물'을 의미한다. 탕정성 위치는 현재 아산시 읍내동산성 일대로 추정된다.
역사 기록은 왕실의 선택으로 이어진다. 신라 성덕왕 11년(712년) 4월 왕이 온수 행차 기록이 남았다. 세종대왕은 눈병 치료를 위해 자주 방문했다. 현종·숙종·영조·정조 등 여러 임금이 온양행궁을 짓고 휴양·치료했다.
◆ 일제강점기 근대화, 오늘날 복합 휴양지로 확장
온양온천의 온천수는 57℃ 내외 100% 천연알칼리수다. 나트륨 함량이 높고 피부·관절·혈액순환에 효과적이다. 일제강점기 온천 전문가인 일본인들이 근대시설을 확장했다. 이 과정에서 왕실 전용 온천에서 대중 생활 온천으로 변화했다.
현재 온양온천은 온양관광호텔·정수온천탕·온양제일호텔·온양온천탕·제일타워찜질방·청주온천탕 등 15개 이상 시설을 갖추고 있다. 숙박형 여행객과 당일 방문객 모두 접근성이 우수하다.
◆ 역사문화 콘텐츠와 연계한 차별화된 여행지

◆ 2,000-Year History Starting from Baekje King Onjo Era
Onyang Hot Spring represents Korea's oldest hot spring. Records show the construction of Tangjeong Fortress occurred during Baekje King Onjo's 36th year (18 A.D.). Tangjeong means "a well with boiling water." The fortress location corresponds to present-day Ebnae-dong in central Asan.
Historical records connected the site to royal patronage. In the 11th year of Silla King Seongdeok (712 A.D.), the king visited the hot spring. King Sejong frequently visited for eye treatment. Kings Hyeonjong, Sukjong, Yeongjo, and Jeongjo all built Onyang palaces and stayed for recuperation and medical treatment.
◆ Modernization During Japanese Colonial Period, Expansion to Multi-Purpose Resort Today
Onyang Hot Spring water maintains approximately 57℃ as 100% natural alkaline water. High sodium content benefits skin, joints, and blood circulation. Japanese hot spring specialists expanded modern facilities during the colonial period. This process transformed the site from an exclusive royal hot spring into a public leisure facility.
