단양교육지원청·"책으로 시작하는 아침"…단양초 '늘품회' 12년 독서봉사

◆ 학부모가 책을 읽어주는 시간

단양초등학교(교장 김영화) 학부모 동아리 '늘품회'는 2013년부터 매주 수요일 아침 등교 시간에 1학년부터 4학년 학생 222명을 대상으로 아침 독서 시간을 운영하고 있다. 현재 14명의 학부모가 참여하고 있으며, 학생들의 눈높이에 맞는 도서를 선정해 교실에서 직접 읽어주고 있다.

◆ "책 읽는 즐거움 느껴요"

늘품회 김승희 회장은 "학생들이 아침 독서 시간을 통해 책 읽는 즐거움을 느끼고 있다"며 "부모와 함께 책을 접하며 정서적으로 안정되는 모습을 볼 때 활동이 보람 있다"고 말했다. 3학년 김모 학생은 "아침에 부모 같은 목소리로 재미있는 책을 들려주니 하루가 기분 좋게 시작된다"며 "집에서 책 읽는 시간도 늘었다"고 했다. 4학년 박모 학생은 "어려운 낱말을 쉽게 설명해줘서 책이 더 재미있어진다"고 전했다.

◆ 확대되는 독서 문화 프로그램

늘품회는 학교와 가정이 함께 성장하는 독서 문화를 조성하기 위해 독서 활동을 확대할 계획이다. 학부모 참여 프로그램을 지속적으로 운영하며 학생들의 올바른 품성과 독서 습관 형성을 돕는다는 방침이다.

The parent circle 'Neulpummhoe' at Danyang Elementary School (Principal Kim Young-hwa) has operated a morning reading time every Wednesday morning since 2013, targeting approximately 222 students in grades 1 through 4. Currently, 14 parents participate in the program, selecting age-appropriate books and reading them aloud in classrooms.

◆ "I Feel the Joy of Reading"

Kim Seung-hee, chairman of Neulpummhoe, said, "Students experience the joy of reading through morning reading time." She added, "It is meaningful to witness students becoming emotionally stable through encountering books together with parents." A 3rd-grade student named Kim said, "When parents read interesting books to us in the morning, my day starts with a good feeling, and I read more at home now." A 4th-grade student named Park said, "The program makes books more enjoyable because volunteers explain difficult words in simple ways."

◆ Expanding Reading Culture Programs

Neulpummhoe plans to expand reading activities to foster a reading culture where school and home grow together. The organization continues to operate parent participation programs and support the development of proper character and reading habits in students.
