◆ 외국인 주민 9만 7천 명, 3년간 꾸준히 증가

충북의 외국인 주민 수가 10만 명 진입을 앞두고 있다. 17일 충북도에 따르면 지난해 11월 기준 충북 전체 인구는 164만 6,300여 명이다. 이 가운데 외국인 주민은 9만 7,300여 명으로 전체 인구의 6%를 차지했다. 충북 외국인 주민 수는 최근 3년간 계속 늘었다. 2022년 7만 9,400여 명에서 2023년 8만 9,000여 명, 지난해 9만 7,000여 명으로 증가했다. 유형별로는 외국인 근로자가 2만 4,400여 명으로 가장 많았다. 이어 외국 국적 동포, 외국인 주민 자녀, 유학생, 결혼 이민자 순이다.

◆ 결혼 이민자 6천 명대, 청주에 42% 집중

결혼 이민자는 2016년 4,000명대에서 2년 전까지 5,000명대를 유지하다가 지난해 6,000명대로 늘었다. 국제 결혼을 통한 가족형 외국인 정주 인구가 꾸준히 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 시군별 결혼 이민자 비중을 보면 충북 전체 인구의 절반이 사는 청주에 42%가 집중됐다. 이어 충주가 13%, 음성이 12%, 진천 10% 순이다. 다문화 출생아 수도 증가했다. 충북 다문화 출생아는 2022년 399명에서 2023년 소폭 줄었다가 지난해 437명으로 늘었다.

◆ 산업단지 중심 정착형 다문화 가정 증가

충북은 청주와 진천, 음성 등 산업단지가 밀집한 지역을 중심으로 정착형 다문화 가정이 꾸준히 늘고 있다고 분석했다. 충북도는 외국인 주민과 지역이 함께 성장할 수 있도록 한국어 교육과 통번역 서비스 등 다양한 시책을 확대해나가겠다고 밝혔다.

◆ 97,000 Foreign Residents, Steady Growth Over 3 Years

The number of foreign residents in Chungbuk is approaching 100,000. As of November last year, Chungbuk's total population was approximately 1,646,300. Among these, foreign residents numbered approximately 97,300, accounting for 6% of the total population. The number of foreign residents in Chungbuk has continued to grow over the past three years. It increased from approximately 79,400 in 2022 to approximately 89,000 in 2023, and approximately 97,000 last year. By type, foreign workers were most numerous at approximately 24,400. This was followed by overseas Koreans, children of foreign residents, international students, and marriage immigrants in that order.

◆ 6,000 Marriage Immigrants, 42% Concentrated in Cheongju

Marriage immigrants maintained numbers in the 4,000s from 2016 until two years ago, then increased to the 6,000s last year. The permanently settling foreign population through international marriage has shown steady growth. Looking at the proportion of marriage immigrants by city and county, 42% were concentrated in Cheongju, which has half of Chungbuk's total population. This was followed by Chungju at 13%, Eumseong at 12%, and Jincheon at 10%. The number of multicultural births also increased. Multicultural births in Chungbuk declined slightly from 399 in 2022 to 2023, then increased to 437 last year.

◆ Growth of Settlement-Type Multicultural Families Centered on Industrial Complexes

Chungbuk analyzed that settlement-type multicultural families are steadily increasing, centered on areas with concentrated industrial complexes such as Cheongju, Jincheon, and Eumseong. Chungbuk Province stated it will expand various policies including Korean language education and interpretation and translation services so that foreign residents and the region can grow together.
