충북 영동군이 대표 관광명소인 월류봉 일대의 탐방환경 개선을 위한 출렁다리(안전보행교) 설치 사업을 본격 추진하고 있다.

탐방객 안전사고 예방 위해 추진

황간면 원촌리에 위치한 월류봉은 초강천이 병풍처럼 휘감아 흐르는 절경으로, '달이 머무는 봉우리'라는 이름처럼 고즈넉한 아름다움을 간직한 영동의 대표 명소다. 월류봉 둘레길은 사계절 내내 탐방객이 끊이지 않는 힐링코스로, 가족 단위와 사진 촬영객, 등산객 등 다양한 관광객들에게 사랑받고 있다. 군은 충북 지역균형발전사업의 일환으로 초강천 구간에 출렁다리(안전보행교)를 설치하고 있으며, 2026년 준공을 목표로 사업을 추진 중이다. 기존 징검다리가 집중호우와 우기철 하천 수위 상승으로 침수되거나 통행이 제한되어 탐방객이 고립되는 사례가 발생했다. 겨울철 결빙으로 인한 낙상사고가 이어지는 등 탐방객 안전문제가 지속적으로 제기됨에 따라 사업을 추진했다.

순환형 탐방코스로 재탄생

최근 출렁다리(안전보행교) 하부 구조물 공사를 시작하며 사업이 순조롭게 진행되고 있다. 군은 시공 품질과 안전관리에 만전을 기하면서 계획된 일정에 맞춰 공정을 추진 중이다. 출렁다리(안전보행교)가 완공되면 초강천을 가로지르는 새로운 탐방 루트가 열려 월류봉의 대표 조망지와 둘레길이 자연스럽게 연결되는 순환형 탐방코스로 재탄생할 예정이다. 군 관계자는 "이번 출렁다리(안전보행교) 설치는 탐방객의 안전을 최우선으로 고려한 사업으로, 월류봉의 절경을 새로운 시각에서 감상할 수 있는 상징적 시설이 될 것"이라며 "안전하고 쾌적한 탐방환경을 조성하겠다"고 밝혔다. 군은 이번 사업을 통해 월류봉이 단순한 걷기 명소를 넘어 보는 즐거움과 머무는 여유를 함께 즐길 수 있는 체류형 관광지로 발전할 것으로 기대하고 있다.

The county is installing a suspension bridge (safety pedestrian bridge) in the Chogang Stream section as part of the Chungbuk Regional Balanced Development Project, promoting the project with a target completion in 2026. Cases occurred where tourists were isolated due to the existing stepping stones being submerged or having restricted passage due to heavy rain and rising river levels during the rainy season. The project was promoted as tourist safety issues were continuously raised, including continued fall accidents due to winter freezing.

Recently, construction of the lower structure of the suspension bridge (safety pedestrian bridge) has begun and the project is progressing smoothly. The county is pursuing the construction process according to the planned schedule while doing its utmost for construction quality and safety management. When the suspension bridge (safety pedestrian bridge) is completed, a new exploration route crossing Chogang Stream will open and it is expected to be reborn as a circular exploration course naturally connecting Wollyubong's representative viewpoints and trails. A county official said, "This suspension bridge (safety pedestrian bridge) installation is a project that prioritizes tourist safety and will become a symbolic facility where visitors can appreciate Wollyubong's spectacular views from a new perspective," adding, "We will create a safe and comfortable exploration environment." The county expects that through this project, Wollyubong will develop beyond a simple walking attraction into a stay-type tourist destination where visitors can enjoy both viewing pleasure and leisurely rest.
