경부고속도로 충북 청주 남이충남 천안 구간(35km)이 양방향 교통량 증가로 편도 6차로의 기능을 상실한 것으로 나타났다.
더불어민주당 이연희(청주 흥덕) 의원은 국회 국토교통위원회 국정감사에서 이 구간의 확장사업을 제3차 고속도로 건설계획에 반영시킬 것을 요구했다.
이 의원실이 국토교통부와 한국도로공사로부터 제공받은 자료에 따르면 고속도로 확장기준 교통량은 76900대로 천안남이 구간은 2024년 이를 32% 초과한 101915대를 기록했다. 최근 5년간 263건의 사고로 사망자 14명, 부상자 104명이 발생했다.
이 의원은 "해당 구간은 만성 정체뿐만 아니라 사고 위험이 높아 확장사업이 반드시 추진돼야 한다"며 "2026년 초 예정된 제3차 고속도로 건설계획에 반영돼야 한다"고 강조했다.
