충남 당진시(시장 오성환)는 농림축산식품부가 13일 발표한 2025년 농촌 공간 정비사업 공모에 순성면 갈산지구가 최종 선정됐다고 14일 밝혔다.
당진시 세 번째 선정 성과
이번 순성면 갈산지구 선정은 앞서 신평면 거산지구와 초대·남산지구가 이미 사업 대상지로 선정되어 사업이 진행 중인 가운데 세 번째 선정된 사례로, 당진시의 지속적인 농촌 환경 개선 노력이 성과를 내고 있다는 평가다.
농촌 공간 정비사업은 농촌지역 내 무분별하게 들어선 축사, 폐가, 빈집, 폐창고 등의 유휴·저활용 시설을 정비해 정주 여건을 개선하고, 주민 삶의 질을 높이기 위한 국가사업이다.
주민 자발적 동의로 선정
당진시는 순성면 지역을 중심으로 축사 밀집으로 인한 악취, 환경오염, 미관 저해 등 각종 민원이 지속적으로 제기됨에 따라, 이번 사업 공모에 전략적으로 참여했다.
특히 지역 주민들과의 지속적인 협의를 통해 사업 대상지 주민의 80% 이상이 자발적으로 동의하면서 높은 평가를 받아 최종 선정되는 성과를 거뒀다.
3년간 47억 원 투입
이번 사업으로 시는 3년간 47억 원의 예산을 투입해, 주민들과의 충분한 협의를 거쳐 철거 예정인 현업 축사와 폐축사 부지를 주민들을 위한 생활편의 공간이나 공동체 공간 등으로 개선할 예정이다.
이남길 당진시 농업정책과장은 "이번 농촌 공간 정비사업 선정을 통해 순성면 일대의 오랜 환경 문제를 해소하고, 주민들이 쾌적하게 살 수 있는 농촌 정주 여건을 조성할 수 있게 되었다"며 "앞으로도 주민과의 소통을 바탕으로 지속 가능한 농촌 만들기에 최선을 다하겠다"고 말했다.
타 읍면 단계적 확대 추진
한편, 당진시는 향후 타 읍면 지역으로도 농촌 공간 정비사업을 단계적으로 확대 추진할 계획이다.

Dangjin City, South Chungcheong Province (Mayor Oh Seong-hwan) announced on the 14th that Galsan District in Sunseong-myeon was finally selected in the 2025 Rural Space Improvement Project contest announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on the 13th.
Dangjin City's Third Selection Achievement
This selection of Galsan District in Sunseong-myeon is the third case, following Geosan District and Chodae·Namsan District in Sinpyeong-myeon which have already been selected as project sites and are currently under implementation, demonstrating that Dangjin City's continuous efforts to improve rural environments are yielding results.
The Rural Space Improvement Project is a national project aimed at improving residential conditions and enhancing residents' quality of life by renovating idle and underutilized facilities such as livestock facilities, abandoned houses, vacant houses, and abandoned warehouses that have been indiscriminately built in rural areas.
Selected Through Residents' Voluntary Consent
Dangjin City strategically participated in this project contest as various civil complaints such as odors, environmental pollution, and aesthetic damage due to concentrated livestock facilities continued to be raised centered on the Sunseong-myeon area.
In particular, through continuous consultation with local residents, over 80% of residents in the project area voluntarily consented, receiving high evaluation and achieving final selection.
4.7 Billion Won Investment Over 3 Years
Through this project, the city plans to invest a budget of 4.7 billion won over three years to improve sites of operating livestock facilities and abandoned livestock facilities scheduled for demolition into living convenience spaces or community spaces for residents after sufficient consultation with residents.
Lee Nam-gil, Director of Dangjin City's Agricultural Policy Division, said, "Through this selection for the Rural Space Improvement Project, we have been able to resolve long-standing environmental problems in the Sunseong-myeon area and create rural residential conditions where residents can live comfortably," adding, "We will continue to do our best to create sustainable rural areas based on communication with residents."
Gradual Expansion to Other Towns Planned
Meanwhile, Dangjin City plans to gradually expand the Rural Space Improvement Project to other town and township areas in the future.
