세계 최초로 한글을 주제로 열린 '한글 국제 프레 비엔날레'가 성공적으로 막을 내렸다.
세종시는 13일 시청 브리핑실에서 '2025 세종한글축제·한글 국제 프레 비엔나레' 성과 및 한글문화도시 비전을 발표했다.
당초 목표 3만명 크게 초과…6만5천명 관람
한글 국제 프레 비엔날레는 9월 1일부터 10월 12일까지 42일간 5만3천여명의 관람객을 유치하며 당초 목표(3만명)를 크게 초과 달성했다.
국립한글박물관 협력전시와 BRT미술관 전시 관람객까지 합치면 총 6만5천400명이 한글 관련 전시를 관람한 것으로 집계됐다.
시는 이번 프레 비엔날레 경험을 바탕으로 2027년 제1회 비엔날레 개최를 위한 기반을 마련했다고 밝혔다.
'세종 한글 미술관' 내년 10월 개관 목표
시는 비엔날레의 지속 가능성과 한글문화도시 정체성 강화를 위해 '세종 한글 미술관' 건립에 나선다.
세종중앙공원 내 구 공원관리사업소 건물(476㎡)을 활용해 전시실, 개방형 수장고 등을 조성할 계획이다. 내년 10월 개관 기념 전시를 목표로 준비 중이다.
미술관은 프레 비엔날레 이후 기증받은 작가들의 작품과 주변 녹지공간을 활용한 설치미술 작품 등으로 구성될 예정이다.
한글문화 공동체 출범
지난 10일에는 세종시, 교보문고, 소설가 김진명, 세종대왕기념사업회, 한글학회, 헤럴드 미디어그룹 등 8개 기관이 참여하는 '한글문화 공동체'가 출범했다.
한글문화 공동체는 한글문화도시 세종의 정체성 확립과 가치 확산을 위한 다양한 협업을 진행할 예정이다.
시 관계자는 "한글문화도시 비전이 도시 경쟁력은 물론 국가 경쟁력을 견인하는 기폭제임을 확인했다"며 "세종대왕의 한글 창제 정신을 이어가며 명실상부한 한글문화 중심도시로 도약하겠다"고 밝혔다.

Sejong City announced the achievements of the '2025 Sejong Hangeul Festival and Hangeul International Pre-Biennale' and the vision for Hangeul Culture City at the city hall briefing room on the 13th.
Original target of 30,000 greatly exceeded… 65,000 visitors
The Hangeul International Pre-Biennale attracted about 53,000 visitors over 42 days from September 1 to October 12, greatly exceeding the original target (30,000).
When including visitors to the cooperative exhibition at the National Hangeul Museum and the BRT Art Museum exhibition, a total of 65,400 people visited Hangeul-related exhibitions.
The city stated that based on the experience of this Pre-Biennale, it has laid the foundation for hosting the 1st Biennale in 2027.
'Sejong Hangeul Art Museum' to open in October next year
The city is moving forward with the construction of the 'Sejong Hangeul Art Museum' to ensure the sustainability of the Biennale and strengthen the identity of Hangeul Culture City.
The plan is to use the former park management office building (476㎡) in Sejong Central Park to create exhibition rooms, an open storage facility, and more. Preparations are underway with the goal of holding an opening commemoration exhibition in October next year.
The art museum will consist of works donated by artists after the Pre-Biennale and installation art pieces utilizing the surrounding green spaces.
Hangeul Culture Community launched
On the 10th, the 'Hangeul Culture Community' was launched with participation from 8 organizations including Sejong City, Kyobo Book Centre, novelist Kim Jin-myung, King Sejong Memorial Foundation, Hangeul Society, and Herald Media Group.
The Hangeul Culture Community plans to carry out various collaborations to establish the identity of Sejong as a Hangeul Culture City and spread its value.
A city official said, "We have confirmed that the vision for Hangeul Culture City is a catalyst that drives not only urban competitiveness but also national competitiveness," and "We will continue King Sejong's spirit of creating Hangeul and leap forward as a true center of Hangeul culture."
