보령시의회 백영창 의원이 27일 열린 제268회 제1차 정례회 제2차 본회의에서 5분 자유발언을 통해 (구)웅천역 폐철도 부지의 도시계획도로 지정 해제와 공간 재활용 필요성을 제기했다.

백영창 의원은 "(구)웅천역 부지는 과거 지역의 관문 역할을 했지만 철도 이전 이후 현재는 도심 속에서 아무런 기능도 하지 못한 채 방치되고 있다"고 말했다. 백 의원은 "도시계획도로로 지정되어 있다는 이유로 주민 편익을 위한 활용이 전혀 이루어지지 못하고 있다"고 지적했다. 그는 도시계획도로 지정의 타당성 재검토, 공공 활용을 위한 협의 추진, 계획변경을 위한 사전 행정 준비 필요성 등을 강조했다.
◆ "웅천 도약 위해 행정의 적극적 정책 의지 촉구"
백영창 의원은 "이제는 도시계획도로라는 이름으로 해당 부지를 묶어두기보다는 지역의 숨통을 틔우고 활력을 불어넣는 실질적 공간으로 전환할 시기"라고 말했다. 백 의원은 "웅천이 다시 도약할 수 있도록 행정의 적극적인 정책 의지와 실천"을 촉구했다.
