◆ 특구 지정 4년 연장 확정
천안시가 '천안 국제화교육특구' 지정 기간을 2028년까지 연장받았다. 중소벤처기업부가 연장을 승인했다. 천안시는 2일 이 같은 내용을 발표했다. 천안시는 2008년 국제화교육특구로 지정됐다. 지난해까지 1056억 원을 투입해 글로벌 인재 양성 교육 인프라를 구축했다.
◆ 135억 원 투입해 4개 사업 추진
천안시는 2028년까지 135억 원을 투입한다. 4개 특화사업을 추진한다. 원어민 집중교육, 체험형 외국어교육, 늘배움 사이버 학습센터 운영, 일류 교육도시 환경조성이다. 관내 55개교(초등학교 44개교, 중학교 11개교)에 원어민 영어교사 40명을 배치한다. 이달 중 초등학교 4~6학년 180명을 대상으로 '2025학년도 겨울방학 영어캠프'를 운영한다.
◆ 글로벌 역량 강화 기대
김석필 천안시장 권한대행 부시장은 "천안 국제화교육특구 기간 연장은 학생들의 글로벌 역량 강화와 지역 교육 경쟁력 제고에 큰 전환점이 될 것"이라고 밝혔다. 김 부시장은 "안정적인 교육 인프라 확충을 위해 노력하겠다"고 말했다.

Cheonan City received an extension of the 'Cheonan International Education Special Zone' designation until 2028. The Ministry of SMEs and Startups approved the extension. Cheonan City announced this on January 2. Cheonan City was designated as an International Education Special Zone in 2008. The city invested 105.6 billion won until last year to build educational infrastructure for nurturing global talent.
◆ 13.5 Billion Won to Be Invested in 4 Projects
Cheonan City will invest 13.5 billion won by 2028. The city will pursue 4 specialized projects. These include intensive native speaker education, experiential foreign language education, operation of the Neulbaeoom Cyber Learning Center, and creating a first-class education city environment. The city will deploy 40 native English teachers to 55 schools (44 elementary schools, 11 middle schools) within the jurisdiction. The city will operate the '2025 Winter Vacation English Camp' for 180 elementary school students in grades 4-6 this month.
◆ Expected to Strengthen Global Competencies
Acting Mayor Kim Seok-pil, Deputy Mayor of Cheonan City, said, "The extension of the Cheonan International Education Special Zone will be a major turning point in strengthening students' global competencies and enhancing regional education competitiveness." Deputy Mayor Kim said, "We will continue to work to expand stable educational infrastructure."
