홍성군 서부면 관광지 유동인구 올해 1월부터 9월까지 9개월 동안 212만708명으로 집계됐다. 지난해 같은 기간 166만명과 비교하면 46만명 증가했다. 증가율은 27.7%다. 홍성군은 빅데이터 분석 결과를 근거로 10월부터 연말까지 3개월 동안 유동인구 추이를 반영할 경우 연간 300만명을 돌파할 것으로 예측했다. 지역 최초 달성 수치다. 서부해안 주요 관광인프라 확충과 적극적 홍보활동이 증가세의 주요 요인으로 분석된다.
◆ 비수기 여름철 증가세 주목
기존에 방문객이 적었던 6월부터 8월 여름철에 뚜렷한 증가세가 나타났다. 사계절 전체에 걸쳐 안정적인 상승 곡선을 형성했다는 의미다. 홍성군이 추진해온 '사계절 체류형 관광지' 전환이 실제 가시적 성과를 내고 있음을 보여준다. 남당항은 9개월 동안 유동인구 78만6천명을 기록했다. 지난해 같은 기간 68만8천명과 비교하면 14.2% 증가했다. 연말까지 증가 추세가 지속될 경우 남당항 연간 방문객은 약 113만명을 넘을 것으로 전망된다. 이는 2023년부터 시작된 연 100만명대 방문객 흐름이 3년 연속 지속될 가능성을 높인다.
◆ 스카이타워·해안기반시설 시너지 창출
홍성스카이타워 연간 20만명 이상 방문객을 유입한다. 남당무지개도로 등 해안 기반시설 확충과 대형 야간경관 콘텐츠 도입은 외부 방문객들의 방문 동기를 강화했다. 언론과 SNS를 중심으로 한 홍보효과가 더해지면서 남당항 인지도가 빠르게 확대됐다. 2019년부터 2022년까지 남당항 연 평균 유동인구는 74만명 수준이었다. 최근 급격한 성장세는 서부해안 관광개발이 본격화된 2022년 이후 구조적 변화와 맞닿아 있다. 홍성군은 2026년까지 속동 생태탐방 스카이브리지 조성과 남당항 복합문화 해양관광 명소 조성 등 주요 관광 인프라를 추진할 계획이다. 서해안 대표 관광도시로의 위상 강화 전략이다.
이은영 홍성군 체육관광과장은 "서부해안 관광벨트 조성을 위한 관광지 변화와 궁리에서 남당항으로 이어지는 해양·자연 자원 연결성 강화가 지역 방문객 확대의 핵심"이라며 "지역 간접 소비 확대와 지역경제 활성화를 도모하겠다"고 밝혔다.

Based on big data analysis, Hongseong County projects foot traffic from October through December will result in surpassing 3 million annual visitors when current trends are factored in—a first-time achievement for the region. Major expansion of western coastal tourism infrastructure and aggressive promotional activities drive the growth.
◆ Summer Off-Season Shows Notable Increase
Distinct visitor growth emerged during June through August, traditionally a slower tourism period. This development created consistent upward trajectory across all four seasons. Hongseong County's "year-round stay-type tourism destination" initiative demonstrates tangible results. Namdang Harbor recorded 786,000 visitors over nine months. Compared to 688,000 during the same period last year, this marks a 14.2% increase. Should this growth trend continue through year-end, annual Namdang Harbor visitors are projected to exceed approximately 1.13 million. This indicates high probability of sustaining the 1 million-plus annual visitor flow that began in 2023 for three consecutive years.
◆ Sky Tower and Coastal Infrastructure Generate Synergy
Hongseong Sky Tower attracts more than 200,000 annual visitors. Expanded coastal infrastructure including Namdang Rainbow Road and new large-scale nighttime landscape content strengthened visitor motivation. Publicity effects through media and SNS rapidly expanded Namdang Harbor recognition. From 2019 through 2022, Namdang Harbor's average annual foot traffic reached approximately 740,000. Recent sharp growth aligns with structural changes beginning in 2022 when western coastal tourism development accelerated. Through 2026, Hongseong County plans major tourism infrastructure including Sokdong Ecological Trail Sky Bridge and Namdang Harbor Complex Cultural Marine Tourism landmark development. This represents strategy to strengthen position as representative West Coast tourism city.
Lee Eun-young, director of Hongseong County's Sports and Tourism Division, stated: "Strengthening connection of marine and natural resources from tourism site transformations through Namdang Harbor forms the core of visitor expansion" and added "We will pursue expanded local indirect consumption and local economic activation."
