충북 괴산군은 대한씨름협회가 주최하는 2026 추석장사씨름대회 개최지로 선정됐다고 10일 밝혔다. 대회는 2026년 추석 연휴 기간 KBS를 통해 전국 생중계된다. 선수단과 관계자 등 5,000여 명이 참가한다.
◆괴산유기농장사씨름대회 성공 개최 실적 인정
군은 괴산유기농장사씨름대회를 개최하며 민속씨름 저변 확대와 지역 스포츠문화 활성화에 기여했다. 이번 메이저 명절대회 유치로 전통씨름 명품 도시로 주목받게 됐다. 군은 대회를 통해 지역경제 활성화와 유기농 농산물 소비 촉진, 관광산업 연계 효과를 기대한다.

◆괴산스포츠타운 중심 체육 인프라 확충
군은 국제 규격 축구장 2면과 테니스장 9면, 조명시설과 관람석을 갖춘 괴산스포츠타운을 중심으로 씨름전용연습장과 시니어친화형 국민체육센터 등 체육 인프라 확충에 나섰다. 송인헌 괴산군수는 "괴산이 전통씨름의 새 중심지로 도약할 기회"라며 "성공적인 대회 개최를 위해 준비하고 전통 스포츠와 지역경제가 함께 성장하는 구조를 만들겠다"고 밝혔다. 괴산군 여자씨름단은 2025 추석장사씨름대회에서 매화급 최다혜 선수와 무궁화급 김다영 선수가 각각 우승했다. 단체전에서 준우승을 거뒀다.

With this major holiday tournament bid, the county gained attention as a premium city for traditional ssireum. The county expects positive effects in various areas including local economic revitalization, promotion of organic agricultural product consumption, and tourism industry linkage through this tournament.
◆Expansion of sports infrastructure centered on Goesan Sports Town
The county began expanding sports infrastructure including a ssireum-only practice facility and senior-friendly national sports center, centered on Goesan Sports Town, which has two international-standard soccer fields, nine tennis courts, lighting facilities, and spectator seats. Goesan County Governor Song In-heon stated, "This bid is an opportunity for Goesan to leap forward as a new center for traditional ssireum," adding, "We will prepare thoroughly for a successful tournament and create a virtuous cycle structure where traditional sports and the local economy grow together." The Goesan-gun women's ssireum team won championships in the 2025 Chuseok Jangsa Ssireum Tournament, with athlete Choi Da-hye in the Maehwa class and athlete Kim Da-young in the Mugunghwa class each winning first place. The team finished second in the team competition.
