◆ 후보 등록 마감…5명 본선 진출
제34대 신협중앙회장 선거가 5파전으로 확정됐다. 중앙선거관리위원회와 신협중앙회는 23~24일 이틀간 후보자 등록을 마감했다. 예비후보 5명 전원이 본선에 이름을 올렸다. 후보자들은 25일부터 공식 선거운동에 돌입한다. 전국 860개 신협 이사장들이 내년 1월 7일 투표권을 행사한다. 중앙선거관리위원회가 선거 관리를 담당한다.
◆ 후보자 5명 면면
송재용 후보(62)는 비(非)중앙회 이사 출신으로 유일하다. 송 후보는 남청주신협 이사장으로 재직 중이다. 신협 전국지역협의회장 대표를 맡아 단위조합 현장 목소리를 중앙에 전달해 왔다. 고영철 후보(66)는 광주문화신협 이사장 겸 신협중앙회 이사다. 2013년 전국 신협 최초로 이용고 배당제도를 도입했다. 박종식 후보(67)는 삼익신협 이사장이자 신협중앙회 이사다. 대구한의대 노인의료복지학과 박사 학위를 취득했다. 양준모 후보(63)는 신협중앙회 이사다. 前 공주중앙신협 이사장과 前 공주시의회 의원을 역임했다. 윤의수 후보(61)는 등록 후보 중 최연소다. 前 신협중앙회 대외협력이사 출신이다.
◆ 최대 쟁점은 재무 건전성 회복
이번 선거 최대 쟁점은 신협 재무 건전성 회복이다. 신협은 올해 상반기 당기순손실 3,333억 원을 기록했다. 연체율도 지난해 말 6.03%에서 8.36%로 급등했다. 김윤식 현 신협중앙회장은 재연임 제한 규정에 따라 출마하지 못한다. 당선자는 내년 2월부터 4년 임기를 시작한다.

The National Election Commission and NACUFOK closed candidate registration over two days from the 23rd to the 24th. All five preliminary candidates registered for the main election. Candidates will begin official campaigning on the 25th. Chairpersons of 860 credit unions nationwide will cast their votes on January 7 next year. The National Election Commission manages the election.
◆ Profiles of Five Candidates
Candidate Song Jae-yong (62) is the only non-NACUFOK board member. Candidate Song currently serves as chairman of Namcheongju Credit Union. He has conveyed the voices of individual unions to the central body as the representative of the National Regional Council of Credit Unions. Candidate Ko Young-cheol (66) is chairman of Gwangju Munhwa Credit Union and a NACUFOK board member. He introduced the usage-based dividend system for the first time among credit unions nationwide in 2013. Candidate Park Jong-sik (67) is chairman of Samik Credit Union and a NACUFOK board member. He earned a doctoral degree from Daegu Haany University's Department of Elderly Medical Welfare. Candidate Yang Jun-mo (63) is a NACUFOK board member. He served as former chairman of Gongju Jungang Credit Union and former Gongju City Council member. Candidate Yoon Eui-su (61) is the youngest among the registered candidates. He formerly served as NACUFOK's External Cooperation Director.
◆ Financial Soundness Recovery is the Biggest Issue
The biggest issue in this election is restoring the financial soundness of credit unions. Credit unions recorded a net loss of 333.3 billion won in the first half of this year. The delinquency rate also surged from 6.03% at the end of last year to 8.36%. Current NACUFOK Chairman Kim Yoon-sik cannot run due to re-appointment restrictions. The winner will begin a four-year term starting February next year.
