◆ 조계사 크리스마스 트리 점등식 개최

대한불교조계종은 18일 서울 종로구 조계사 일주문 앞에서 이웃 종교 지도자들을 초청해 '크리스마스트리 등 점등식'을 개최했다. 조계종은 2010년부터 종교 간 연대와 평화를 기원하기 위해 이 행사를 이어왔다. 점등식에는 조계종 총무원장 진우 스님을 비롯해 한국종교인평화회의(KCRP) 대표회장 최종수 성균관장, 박인준 천도교 교령, 이용훈 한국천주교주교회의 주교, 김령하 한국민족종교협의회 회장, 박승렬 한국기독교교회협의회(NCCK) 총무, 문화체육관광부 김도형 종무실장 등 종교·정부 인사들과 불자들이 참석했다.

진우 스님은 축하 메시지에서 "어두운 세상을 비추기 위해 오신 아기 예수님의 탄생을 진심으로 축하드린다"며 "예수님의 이웃 사랑과 부처님의 자비 정신은 종교를 넘어선 하나의 큰 진리"라고 밝혔다. 진우 스님은 "종교 간 화합은 갈등을 줄이고 평화를 세우는 가장 강력한 사회적 힘"이라며 "종교계가 연대해 사회적 약자들의 곁을 지키고 고통의 현장 가까이 다가가야 한다"고 강조했다. 진우 스님은 전쟁과 재해, 경제적 어려움 속에 놓인 이웃들을 언급하며 "종교가 세상의 빛이 되기 위해서는 말씀의 전파를 넘어 실천과 연대가 함께해야 한다"고 말했다. 진우 스님은 "오늘 점등하는 크리스마스트리의 빛이 증오와 갈등을 녹이고 자비와 사랑의 상징으로 기억되기를 바란다"고 덧붙였다.

◆ 점등식 진행 순서와 점등 기간

점등식은 진우 스님의 축하 메시지 발표, 이웃 종교 지도자들의 인사말, 트리 등 점등, 조계사 소년소녀합창단 공연 순서로 진행됐다. 크리스마스 트리등은 오는 25일까지 불을 밝힌다.

Jinwoo stated in his congratulatory message "I sincerely congratulate the birth of Baby Jesus who came to illuminate the dark world" and said "The love for neighbors of Jesus and the spirit of compassion of Buddha are one great truth that transcends religion." Ven. Jinwoo emphasized "Harmony among religions is the most powerful social force that reduces conflict and builds peace" and "The religious community must unite to stay by the side of the socially vulnerable and approach the scenes of suffering." Ven. Jinwoo mentioned neighbors facing war, disasters, and economic difficulties and said "For religion to become the light of the world, practice and solidarity must accompany the spreading of the word." Ven. Jinwoo added "I hope the light of the Christmas tree we light today will melt hatred and conflict and be remembered as a symbol of compassion and love."

◆ Ceremony Program and Lighting Period

The lighting ceremony proceeded in the order of Ven. Jinwoo's congratulatory message, greetings from neighboring religious leaders, tree lighting, and a performance by the Jogyesa Temple Boys and Girls Choir. The Christmas tree lights will remain lit until the 25th.
