이재명 대통령은 12일 개인정보 유출 사고와 관련해 시행령을 고쳐 과징금을 높일 것을 지시했다. 이 대통령은 이날 정부세종컨벤션센터에서 열린 과학기술정보통신부·개인정보보호위원회·방송미디어통신위원회 업무보고에서 이같이 언급했다.
이 대통령은 현재 시행령에서 직전 3개년 매출액 평균의 3%까지 과징금을 매길 수 있다는 보고를 듣고 "3개년 중 제일 매출이 높은 연도의 3%로 과징금을 매길 수 있도록 하자"고 제안했다. 송경희 개인정보보호위원장은 "바로 그렇게 검토하겠다"고 답했다. 이 대통령은 "경제 제재가 너무 약해서 위반을 밥 먹듯이 하고 있다"며 "위반하면 엄청난 경제 제재를 당해서 '잘못하면 회사가 망한다'는 느낌이 들도록 해야 한다"고 강조했다.
이 대통령은 최근 쿠팡 개인정보 유출 사건을 겨냥해 "전 국민이 다 피해자인데 일일이 소송을 하라고 하면 소송비가 더 들지 않겠느냐"며 집단소송제 보완을 위한 입법에 속도를 낼 것을 촉구했다.
