◆ 축산왕 선발 개요
옥천군은 제26대 축산왕으로 이원면 윤정리 거주 허점영씨를 선발했다고 10월 17일 밝혔다. 시상식은 11월 11일 농업인의 날 행사에서 열릴 예정이다. ‘축산왕’은 1997년부터 이어져 온 행사로, 모범적인 축산 전문경영인을 선발해 가축 사육 의욕을 고취하고 축산인 사기를 진작하기 위해 시행된다.

이번 선발은 각 읍·면에서 추천된 후보자 중 현지 순회심사를 거쳐 진행됐다. 심사는 축사 현대화, 사양관리 및 사료 급여 체계, 축산환경 개선 및 악취 저감, 지역활동 사항 등 11개 항목을 기준으로 한우협회, 수의사회, 축협 등 축산 전문가 7명으로 구성된 심사위원회가 공정하게 수행했다.

◆ 허점영 씨의 성과와 소감
허점영 농가는 한우 사육 경력 35년으로 2021년 ‘깨끗한 축산농장’으로 지정된 바 있으며, 정기적으로 축분 부숙 촉진제 및 탈취제를 살포해 축사 악취 저감을 위해 노력 중이다. 또한 사육 단계별 체계적인 TMR 사료 급여, 이원한우협회 회장 및 축협 임원으로 활동하며 단체 참여에도 적극적이다. 허점영 씨는 “축산왕으로 선발되어 기쁘며, 앞으로도 주변 축산농가에 모범이 되고 지역사회와 상생하는 축산업을 위해 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Okcheon County announced on October 17 that Heo Jeom-Young, residing in Yunjeong-ri, Iwon-myeon, has been selected as the 26th Livestock King. The award ceremony will take place on November 11 during the Farmers’ Day event. The “Livestock King” award, established in 1997, recognizes exemplary livestock management professionals to encourage livestock farming motivation and boost the morale of farmers.

◆ Selection Process and Evaluation Criteria
Candidates recommended by each eup and myeon were evaluated through on-site inspections. The assessment covered 11 criteria including barn modernization, feeding and nutrition management, livestock environment improvement and odor reduction, and community activities. A panel of seven livestock experts from the Hanwoo Association, the Veterinary Association, and the Livestock Cooperative conducted a fair evaluation.

◆ Heo Jeom-Young’s Achievements and Remarks
Heo Jeom-Young has 35 years of Hanwoo farming experience. In 2021, his farm was designated a “Clean Livestock Farm.” He regularly applies compost accelerators and deodorants to reduce barn odor. He also manages systematic TMR feeding at each livestock stage and actively participates in group activities as chairman of the Iwon Hanwoo Association and a Livestock Cooperative officer. Heo stated, “I am honored to be selected as Livestock King and will continue to set an example for neighboring farmers and contribute to the sustainable development of the livestock industry in the community.”
