15일 대전소방본부에 따르면 이날 오전 9시33분 대전 유성구의 한 아파트에서 "한쪽 마비 증세가 있는 환자가 있다"는 신고가 접수됐다.

소방 당국이 현장에 도착했을 때 이 위원장은 심정지 상태였다.

이 위원장은 인근 병원으로 응급 이송됐으나 사망 판정을 받았다.

이 위원장은 5선 국회의원을 지냈다.
