◆ 이재명 대통령 "통합 혜택 누구나 누려야"

이재명 대통령이 18일 대전충남 행정통합 조속 추진 의사를 밝혔다. 이 대통령은 이날 서울 용산 대통령실에서 대전충남 지역 더불어민주당 국회의원들과 오찬 회동을 가졌다. 강유정 대통령실 대변인은 서면 브리핑을 통해 "이 대통령이 '통합의 혜택은 누구나 누려야 한다'며 재정 분권과 자치 권한에서 수용 가능한 최대 범주 안에서 특례 조항을 살펴봐 달라고 당부했다"고 전했다. 대변인은 "광역자치단체 통합은 처음 추진되는 만큼 모범사례가 될 수 있도록 적극적인 협조를 당부했다"고 덧붙였다.

◆ 여당 충남도당위원장 "충남이 대한민국 발전 이끌 것"

이날 오찬 회동에 참석한 이정문 더불어민주당 충남도당위원장은 공주대학교 천안캠퍼스에서 열린 정청래 대표 특강 전 "이재명 대통령이 대전충남 통합 조속 추진 뜻을 전했다"고 밝혔다. 이 위원장은 "우리 충남이 대한민국 발전을 이끌 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다"고 말했다. 현장 당원 대부분은 환영의 박수를 보냈다.

◆ 원로 당원 "군 단위 지역 소외 우려"

우려의 목소리도 나왔다. 한 원로 당원은 "천안, 아산, 당진 같은 대도시는 큰 효과를 누릴 수 있겠으나 서천, 부여, 청양 같은 군 단위 지역은 오히려 소외될 가능성이 높다"고 걱정했다. 또 다른 당원은 "곧 지방선거인데 선거를 준비하던 후보군들도 혼란스러울 것"이라며 "조속한 추진도 좋지만 먼저 주민들을 이해시키는 게 필요하다"고 강조했다. 대전충남 행정통합은 지난해 11월부터 이장우 대전광역시장과 김태흠 충남도지사가 주축이 돼 추진해 왔다. 올해 10월 국회에 대전·충남 통합특별법이 발의돼 현재 행정안전위원회에 계류 중이다. 이 대통령은 지난 5일 천안 타운홀 미팅에서 통합론에 긍정적 의사를 표명한 바 있다.

◆ Senior Party Member: "Concerns Over Rural Area Marginalization"

Voices of concern also emerged. One senior party member worried, "Large cities like Cheonan, Asan, and Dangjin can enjoy significant benefits, but rural counties like Seocheon, Buyeo, and Cheongyang are more likely to be marginalized." Another party member emphasized, "Local elections are coming soon, and candidates who were preparing will be confused. Swift pursuit is good, but gaining residents' understanding first is necessary." The Daejeon-South Chungcheong administrative integration has been pursued since November last year, led by Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo and South Chungcheong Governor Kim Tae-heum. The Daejeon-South Chungcheong Integration Special Act was submitted to the National Assembly in October this year and is currently pending at the Public Administration and Security Committee. President Lee expressed positive views on integration at a town hall meeting in Cheonan on December 5.
