◆ 청주지검, 40대 업체 대표 구속기소

청주지검은 10일 음식물 쓰레기를 농경지에 불법 매립한 40대 폐기물 처리 업체 대표를 구속 기소했다. 해당 업체 대표는 지난 3월 청주시 흥덕구 상신동과 평동 일대 농경지에 음식물 쓰레기 733t을 매립한 혐의를 받는다.

◆ 6년간 전국 돌며 불법 매립

해당 업자는 2019년부터 충북과 충남, 세종, 경기 등 전국 각지를 돌며 비료로 가장한 음식물 쓰레기를 불법 매립한 혐의로 경찰 조사를 받고 있다. 음식물 쓰레기가 매립된 지역 인근에서는 악취 민원이 잇따랐다.

◆ 환경오염 우려 확산

검찰은 해당 업자가 장기간에 걸쳐 광범위한 지역에서 불법 매립을 자행한 점을 중하게 보고 구속 기소했다. 경찰은 추가 매립지 확인과 피해 규모 산정을 위한 수사를 계속하고 있다.
