공주시는 '제23회 박찬호기 전국초등학교야구대회'가 28일 개막해 11월 9일까지 13일 동안 열린다고 밝혔다.
대회는 공주시립박찬호야구장에서 진행된다. 전국 17개 시도에서 선발된 36개 초등학교 야구팀이 참가해 경기를 펼친다.
28일 열린 개회식에는 최원철 공주시장, 임달희 공주시의회 의장, 배건주 공주시체육회장, 양해영 대한야구소프트볼협회장, 이선영 충남야구소프트볼협회장, 조성훈 공주시야구소프트볼협회장이 참석했다. 박찬호·박병호 선수도 참석해 대회 개막을 축하했다.
대회는 11월 2일까지 리그전을 진행한다. 11월 4일부터 27강·16강·8강·준결승 토너먼트가 열린다.
결승전은 11월 9일 오전 10시 열린다. TV를 통해 생중계될 예정이다.
폐회식 후에는 박찬호 선수와 메이저리거 이정후 선수가 우승팀·준우승팀 선수들과 함께하는 교류 프로그램이 마련된다.
최원철 시장은 "공주는 야구 꿈나무들이 마음껏 기량을 펼치고 성장할 수 있는 도시"라고 말했다.
최 시장은 "전국에서 모인 선수들이 그동안 갈고닦은 실력을 마음껏 발휘하길 기대한다"고 덧붙였다.

Gongju City announced that the '23rd Park Chan-ho Cup National Elementary School Baseball Tournament' opened on the 28th and will be held for 13 days until November 9.
The tournament is held at Gongju City Park Chan-ho Baseball Stadium. Thirty-six elementary school baseball teams selected from 17 cities and provinces nationwide will participate in the competition.
At the opening ceremony held on the 28th, Gongju Mayor Choi Won-chul, Gongju City Council Chairman Lim Dal-hee, Gongju City Sports Council Chairman Bae Geon-ju, Korea Baseball Softball Association Chairman Yang Hae-young, Chungnam Baseball Softball Association Chairman Lee Sun-young, and Gongju City Baseball Softball Association Chairman Cho Seong-hoon attended. Players Park Chan-ho and Park Byung-ho also attended to celebrate the opening of the tournament.
The tournament will hold league matches until November 2. The round of 27, round of 16, quarterfinals, and semifinals tournaments will be held from November 4.
The finals will be held at 10 a.m. on November 9. It will be broadcast live on TV.
After the closing ceremony, an exchange program will be held with player Park Chan-ho and major leaguer Lee Jung-hoo along with players from the winning and runner-up teams.
Mayor Choi Won-chul said, "Gongju is a city where young baseball talents can fully demonstrate their skills and grow."
Mayor Choi added, "I look forward to the players from across the country fully demonstrating the skills they have honed."
