국민의힘 소속 논산시의원과 충남도의원이 22일 방산업체 코리아디펜스인더스트리(KDI)의 논산 추가 투자 무산과 관련해 황명선 국회의원을 정면 비판했다.

시·도의원들은 이날 성명에서 "정치권이 시민단체를 선동해 KDI 논산공장을 폭탄공장, 위험한 무기생산업체로 몰아 일부 공정을 영주시에 빼앗겼다"고 주장했다. 이들은 이번 사태가 논산을 국방군수산업의 메카로 육성하려는 시정 핵심 전략을 무력화시켰다고 지적했다.

의원들은 KDI 추가 투자가 단순한 기업 이전 문제가 아니라 일자리 창출과 청년인구 유입 등 논산 성장의 핵심 동력이라고 강조했다. 이들은 "더 이상 무책임한 반대와 정치적 계산으로 논산의 기회를 희생시키지 말라"고 촉구했다.

시·도의원들은 이번 투자 유치 무산으로 논산의 도시가치 훼손, 건양대 국방선도대학 성과에 대한 부정적 영향, 청년 미래 불투명성 심화, 국방국가산업단지 조성 및 분양 차질 등 연쇄적 피해가 우려된다고 경고했다.

이들은 황명선 의원에게 부당한 행정간섭을 중단하고 책임 있는 정치를 할 것을 촉구했다.

PPP Nonsan Council Members Demand Rep. Hwang Myung-sun Take Responsibility for KDI Investment Failure

Defense company's additional investment diverted to Yeongju City amid political controversy

People Power Party (PPP) members of the Nonsan City Council and South Chungcheong Provincial Council publicly criticized Rep. Hwang Myung-sun on Dec. 22 over the collapse of additional investment plans by defense contractor Korea Defense Industry (KDI) in Nonsan.

In a statement, the council members claimed that political circles had incited civic groups to label the KDI Nonsan plant as a "bomb factory" and "dangerous weapons manufacturer," resulting in some production processes being diverted to Yeongju City. They argued this development undermined the city's core administrative strategy to establish Nonsan as a hub for defense and military supply industries.

The lawmakers emphasized that KDI's additional investment represented more than a simple corporate relocation issue, calling it a key driver for Nonsan's growth through job creation and youth population influx. They urged an end to "irresponsible opposition and political calculations that sacrifice Nonsan's opportunities."

The council members warned of cascading damage from the failed investment, including diminished city value, negative impacts on Konyang University's defense-focused university achievements, increased uncertainty for young residents' futures, and setbacks for the National Defense Industrial Complex development and sales.

They called on Rep. Hwang to cease improper administrative interference and practice responsible politics.
