◆ 기후에너지환경부장관상 수상…자원순환 노력 인정

한국가스공사(사장 최연혜)가 12월 24일 서울 종로구 포시즌스 호텔에서 열린 '2025 ESG 자원순환 어워즈'에서 우수기관으로 선정돼 기후에너지환경부장관상을 수상했다. 기후에너지환경부가 후원하고 E-순환거버넌스가 주최하는 이 행사는 폐전기·전자제품의 자원순환 실천에 노력한 기관·기업을 발굴해 포상하고 우수 사례를 공유하고자 마련됐다.

가스공사는 자원순환 기반 조성을 위한 업무협약 체결, 자원순환 업무 간소화, 자사 홈페이지를 통한 폐전기·전자제품 자원순환 대국민 홍보, 임직원 참여 자원순환 활동 시행 등 다양한 노력을 인정받아 장관상 수상의 영예를 안았다.

◆ 올해 폐전자제품 9,300kg 회수…온실가스 28톤 절감

특히 가스공사는 사내에 상시 수거함을 설치해 올 한 해만 약 9,300kg의 폐전기·전자제품을 회수했다. 이를 통해 온실가스 28tCO₂를 절감하는 성과를 냈다.

또한 가스공사는 2024년 건설공사 현장 폐기물 재활용률 98%를 달성했다. 2022년에는 사내 카페에 다회용 컵 사용 및 세척·수거설비를 구축해 순환경제 생태계 조성에 앞장서고 있다.

◆ 업사이클링 활동 강화 방침…"탄소 절감 기여하겠다"

가스공사는 향후 자사에서 배출되는 폐플라스틱과 폐작업복 등을 재활용해 물품을 제작하는 업사이클링 활동도 강화할 방침이다.

가스공사 관계자는 "지속 가능한 미래를 위한 친환경 경영 실천 노력이 좋은 결실을 맺게 돼 기쁘다"며 "앞으로도 올바른 자원순환 문화 조성과 재활용 인식 개선을 통해 정부 순환경제 정책 이행 및 탄소 배출 절감에 적극 기여하겠다"고 말했다.

Korea Gas Corporation (CEO Choi Yeon-hye) was selected as an excellent organization at the '2025 ESG Resource Circulation Awards' held at Four Seasons Hotel in Jongno-gu, Seoul on December 24 and received the Minister of Climate, Energy and Environment Award. Sponsored by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and hosted by E-Circulation Governance, the event was designed to discover and reward organizations and companies that have made efforts in resource circulation of waste electrical and electronic products and share best practices.

KOGAS was honored with the ministerial award in recognition of various efforts including signing business agreements to establish resource circulation foundations, simplifying resource circulation work, promoting public awareness of e-waste resource circulation through its website, and implementing employee-participated resource circulation activities.

◆ Recovered 9,300kg of E-waste This Year…Reduced 28 Tons of Greenhouse Gas

Notably, KOGAS installed permanent collection bins in-house and recovered approximately 9,300kg of waste electrical and electronic products this year alone. This resulted in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 28tCO₂.

Additionally, KOGAS achieved a 98% waste recycling rate at construction sites in 2024. In 2022, the company established reusable cup usage and washing/collection facilities at in-house cafes, leading the way in creating a circular economy ecosystem.

◆ Plans to Strengthen Upcycling Activities…"Will Contribute to Carbon Reduction"

KOGAS plans to strengthen upcycling activities that reuse waste plastics and work clothes from the company to produce goods in the future.

A KOGAS official said, "We are pleased that our efforts to practice eco-friendly management for a sustainable future have yielded good results," adding, "We will continue to actively contribute to implementing the government's circular economy policy and reducing carbon emissions through creating a proper resource circulation culture and improving recycling awareness."
