홈플러스 동청주점이 2025년 1월 10일 폐점한다. 2006년 5월 11일 개점한 동청주점은 21년간 청주 북부 생활권 대표 대형마트로 운영됐다.
동청주점은 약 2주 전 본사로부터 폐점 통보를 받았다. 본사와 임대료 협상이 최종 결렬되면서 계약 해지 통보 대상에 포함됐다. 동청주점은 2025년 1월 10일까지 한 달간 고별정리 행사를 진행한다.
동청주점은 율량·사천·오동·내덕동 등 청주 북부 지역과 진천·증평 주민들이 이용해왔다. 넓은 주차공간과 엔포드호텔 복합시설을 갖춰 지역민의 대표 장보기 장소였다.
충청권에서는 대전문화점과 천안신방점도 폐점 예정이었으나 매수자 결정 전까지 보류됐다. 청주 성안점도 폐점설이 이어지고 있다.
전국적으로 동대문·부천소사·순천풍덕·부산반여·신내·동청주 등 6개 대형마트 폐점이 확정됐다. 압구정·화원 등 익스프레스 직영점도 문을 닫고 있다.
조국혁신당 조국 대표는 2일 서울 용산 대통령실 인근에서 단식 중인 민주노총 마트산업노조 홈플러스지부 지도부를 만났다. 조 대표는 "해결 방안을 찾기 위해 더욱 노력하겠다"고 밝혔다. 홈플러스지부 지도부는 지난달 8일부터 정부 개입을 요구하며 단식 농성을 이어오고 있다.
지역 유통업계 관계자는 "충청권은 홈플러스 의존도가 높은 지역 중 하나"라며 "이번 폐점은 지역경제에 상당한 파급효과를 초래할 것"이라고 말했다.

Dongcheongju Store received closure notification from headquarters approximately two weeks ago. The store was included in the contract termination list after rent negotiations with headquarters finally broke down. Dongcheongju Store will hold a month-long farewell sale from December 4 to January 10, 2025.
Dongcheongju Store served residents from northern Cheongju areas including Yullyang, Sacheon, Odong, and Naedok-dong, as well as Jincheon and Jeungpyeong. It was a representative shopping destination for local residents with spacious parking and Enford Hotel complex facilities.
In the Chungcheong region, Daejeon Munhwa Store and Cheonan Sinbang Store were also scheduled to close but have been put on hold until a buyer is determined. Cheongju Seongan Store continues to face closure rumors.
Nationwide, six hypermarkets including Dongdaemun, Bucheon Sosa, Suncheon Pungdeok, Busan Banyeo, Sinnae, and Dongcheongju have been confirmed for closure. Express directly-operated stores in Apgujeong and Hwawon are also closing.
Cho Kuk, leader of the Rebuilding Korea Party, met with the leadership of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions Mart Industry Union Homeplus Branch, who were on a hunger strike near the Presidential Office in Yongsan, Seoul on the 2nd. Cho stated, "I will work harder to find a solution." The Homeplus Branch leadership has been continuing a hunger strike since the 8th of last month demanding government intervention.
A local distribution industry official said, "The Chungcheong region is one of the areas with high dependence on Homeplus." The official added, "This closure will cause significant ripple effects on the local economy."
