◆ 특구 지정 추진, 2026년 본격 개발
홍성군은 광천김을 중심으로 생산·가공·물류·관광을 연계한 '홍성 김 가공산업특구' 지정을 추진한다고 8일 발표했다. 홍성군은 29일까지 특구계획을 공고하고, 15일부터 29일까지 계획안을 열람·공고하며 주민과 기업, 관계 전문가 의견을 수렴한다. 공청회는 23일 오후 2시 홍성군청 2층 대강당에서 개최된다.
◆ 광천읍·서부면 일대 21만㎡ 규모
특구는 광천읍·서부면 일대 21만 8,845㎡(개발면적 5만 4,096㎡)를 대상으로 2026년부터 2030년까지 5년간 추진된다. 총사업비는 국·도비와 군비, 민자 등을 포함해 약 472억원 규모다. 홍성군수가 특화사업자로서 사업을 주도한다.
◆ 생산·가공·유통 통합 육성
홍성군은 육상 김 양식장 조성과 해상 김 양식 생산량 증대, 마른김 도입 네트워크 구축 등으로 생산 인프라를 조성한다. 김 스마트팩토리 조성과 가공업체 시설 현대화, 가공식품 개발 활성화로 산업을 고도화한다. 수산식품 종합물류단지와 김 홍보탑, 문화체험관 조성, 글로벌 수출 지원으로 유통과 마케팅을 강화한다.

◆ Special Zone Designation Drive, Full-Scale Development Starting 2026
Hongseong County announced on the 8th its plan to pursue designation of the 'Hongseong Seaweed Processing Industrial Special Zone,' which will integrate seaweed production, processing, logistics, and tourism centered on Gwangcheon seaweed. Hongseong County will announce the special zone plan through the 29th, and from the 15th through the 29th, it will display and announce the plan draft while gathering opinions from residents, businesses, and expert stakeholders. A public hearing will be held at 2 p.m. on the 23rd at the main hall on the 2nd floor of Hongseong County Office.
◆ Gwangcheon-eup and Seobu-myeon Area, 218,845 Square Meters in Scale
The special zone targets an area of 218,845 square meters in Gwangcheon-eup and Seobu-myeon (development area of 54,096 square meters) and will be promoted over a five-year period from 2026 to 2030. The total project cost, including national, provincial, and county budgets as well as private investment, is approximately 47.2 billion won in scale. The Hongseong County Governor serves as the designated operator and drives the project forward.
◆ Integrated Development of Production, Processing, and Distribution
Hongseong County will establish production infrastructure by developing land-based seaweed farms, increasing marine seaweed production volumes, and building dried seaweed import networks. It will modernize the industry through smart factory construction for seaweed, facility modernization for aquatic product and food processing companies, and activation of processed food product development using seaweed. It will strengthen distribution and marketing through construction of a comprehensive aquatic food logistics complex, seaweed promotional tower, cultural experience center, and support for global seaweed exports.
