◆ 제천경찰서 교통안전 교육 실시
제천경찰서(서장 김태경)는 20일 명락노인종합복지관에서 어르신 100여 명을 대상으로 교통안전 교육을 실시했다. 교육 내용은 운전 중 보행자 보호 의무, 보행 중 안전한 보행 방법 등 교통안전 수칙 중심으로 진행됐다. 이 교육은 제천경찰서가 연말까지 추진하는 '교통사망사고 예방 특별 안전 대책'에 포함된다.
◆ 고령화 심화, 사고 예방 대책 필수
충북 도내 70세 이상 인구는 235,056명으로(2025년 10월 기준) 10년 전 대비 약 10만 명 증가했다. 전체 인구에서 차지하는 비율도 8.9%에서 14.8%로 상승했다. 고령자는 상대적으로 신체·인지 기능이 저하되면서 교통사고 위험에 노출되는 비율이 높아진다. 따라서 고령자 특성에 맞는 교통사고 예방 대책 필요성이 증가했다.
◆ 교육·홍보 병행, 시설 개선 추진
제천경찰서는 고령자 대상 교육과 홍보 활동을 지속한다. 동시에 고령자 방문이 많은 전통시장 주변에 노인보호구역을 지정하고 제한속도를 하향 조정하며 보행 시설 개선을 추진할 방침이다.

This education initiative is part of the "Special Traffic Death Prevention Safety Measures" promoted by Jecheon Police Department through the end of the year.
◆ Aging Population Growth Necessitates Accident Prevention Strategies
The elderly population aged 70 and older in North Chungcheong Province reached 235,056 as of October 2025, an increase of approximately 100,000 compared to a decade earlier. The proportion of this age group increased from 8.9% to 14.8% of the total population. Elderly individuals face heightened traffic accident risk due to relatively diminished physical and cognitive function. Consequently, demand for traffic accident prevention strategies tailored to elderly characteristics has increased.
◆ Sustained Education and Facility Improvements
Jecheon Police Department continues education and promotion activities targeting elderly residents. Additionally, the department plans to designate senior protection zones around traditional markets frequented by elderly visitors, reduce speed limits, and improve pedestrian facilities.
