◆ 3000억원 규모 국가연구플랫폼 아산 유치

충남도는 '첨단 디스플레이 국가연구플랫폼'을 충남 아산시에 유치했다고 12일 밝혔다. 이번 사업은 차세대 디스플레이 기술 경쟁력 확보를 위해 국가 주도로 추진되는 프로젝트로, 도는 3000억원을 들여 국가 첨단 디스플레이 연구원을 설립한다. 연구지원동, 클린룸동, 유틸리티동 등 실증형 연구·제조 인프라가 구축되며, 기업·대학·연구기관이 함께 실험하고 기술을 완성할 수 있는 공동 연구 허브 역할을 하게 된다.

◆ 기존 인프라와 시너지로 전주기 생태계 완성

이번 유치는 민선 8기 김태흠 충남도지사의 공약으로 추진 중인 '디스플레이 소부장 특화단지 조기 육성'과 맞물려 시너지를 낼 전망이다. 지난 4월 개소한 디스플레이 혁신공정센터(천안)는 유기발광 디스플레이 기반 공정 실증 및 장비 검증을, 금년도 구축을 본격 추진한 스마트모듈러센터(아산)는 무기발광 디스플레이 관련 패널·모듈 제조 실증을 진행한다. 첨단 디스플레이 국가연구플랫폼에서는 기술개발을 관리하고 기술 전략, 표준 확립 등을 통해 국내 디스플레이 분야의 핵심 컨트롤타워 역할을 맡게 된다.

◆ 글로벌 기술 주도권 확보 기대

도는 이번 플랫폼을 통해 차세대 디스플레이 기술에서 글로벌 기술 주도권을 되찾고 국내 소재·부품·장비의 기술 자립도를 크게 높일 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다. 안호 충남도 산업경제실장은 "이번 유치는 충남이 디스플레이 산업에서 기술개발·실증·산업확산을 하나의 체계로 연결할 수 있는 유일한 지역임을 다시 확인한 것"이라며 "국가연구플랫폼은 이 흐름을 상위에서 기획·조정하고 기관 간 역할을 연계하는 핵심 허브로서 기능하게 된다"고 말했다.

◆ 300 billion won national research platform attracted to Asan

South Chungcheong Province announced on the 12th that it has attracted the 'Advanced Display National Research Platform' to Asan City, South Chungcheong Province. This project is a nationally-led initiative to secure competitiveness in next-generation display technology, and the province will invest 300 billion won to establish a national advanced display research institute. Demonstration-type research and manufacturing infrastructure including a research support building, clean room building, and utility building will be constructed, serving as a joint research hub where companies, universities, and research institutions can experiment together and complete technologies.

◆ Completion of full-cycle ecosystem through synergy with existing infrastructure

This attraction is expected to create synergy in conjunction with 'early development of a specialized complex for display materials, parts, and equipment,' which is being promoted as a pledge by 8th elected Governor Kim Tae-heum. The Display Innovation Process Center (Cheonan), which opened last April, conducts organic light-emitting display-based process demonstration and equipment verification, while the Smart Modular Center (Asan), which began full-scale construction this year, will conduct inorganic light-emitting display-related panel and module manufacturing demonstrations. The advanced display national research platform will manage technology development and serve as a core control tower for the domestic display sector through technology strategy and standard establishment.

◆ Expectations for securing global technological leadership

The province expects that this platform will enable regaining global technological leadership in next-generation display technology and significantly increasing the technological independence of domestic materials, parts, and equipment. Ahn Ho, director of the Industrial Economy Division of South Chungcheong Province, said, "This attraction reconfirms that South Chungcheong is the only region that can connect technology development, demonstration, and industrial expansion in the display industry as one system," adding, "The national research platform will function as a core hub that plans and coordinates this flow from above and links roles between institutions."
