Okcheon County Shows Increases in Both Births and Total Population

123 births this year, 5 more than last year… Total population also up by 136

Okcheon County, North Chungcheong Province, announced on the 12th that both the number of births and total population showed meaningful increases this year.

According to the county, the number of births, which was 118 for the entire year of 2024, reached 123 just from January to October this year, an increase of 5.

The total population also grew. While the total population at the end of last year was 48,204, it increased to 48,340 as of the end of October, an increase of 136.

Go Sang-geun, head of the Population Policy Team, explained, "This should not be seen as a simple numerical increase, but as a result of establishing a virtuous cycle system for pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare," adding, "Okcheon County is pursuing various policies including being the first in the nation to provide scholarships to families with three or more children, supporting infant accident insurance enrollment, and establishing youth employment retention allowances."

County Governor Hwang Gyu-cheol said, "The increase in births is evidence that the childbirth and childcare-friendly policies promoted by the county are showing results."
