대전시는 12일 합성생물학 분야에서 세계적 선도기관인 싱가포르 국립대(NUS)와 첨단 바이오제조 공동연구 및 국제협력을 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다.
이번 협약은 지난 5월 중소벤처기업부 공모에 최종 지정된 대전시 합성생물학 기반 첨단 바이오제조 글로벌 혁신특구 사업의 성공적 운영과 참여기업의 신속한 해외시장 진출을 위한 글로벌 네트워크 구축을 목적으로 한다.
양 기관은 합성생물학 기반 첨단 바이오제조를 위한 실증 및 공동 연구개발(R&D), 학문적 정보·인재 교류에 관한 협력, 지역 기업의 첨단바이오 분야 신소재 개발 및 신속한 기술사업화를 적극 지원하기로 했다.
협약식에 이어 협약 참여기관 및 관계자, 특구 참여기업 등이 참석한 가운데 공동 세미나도 열렸다. 대전과 싱가포르의 바이오 생태계를 상호 소개하고 특구 참여기업의 기술 발표와 함께 기관 간 네트워킹을 통해 기업의 해외진출을 위한 협력기반을 구축했다.
최성아 대전시 부시장은 "협약을 통해 대전이 혁신 신기술과 신소재 개발을 주도하는 대한민국 대표 바이오 도시로 성장할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다"고 말했다.

Joint research in synthetic biology, talent exchange… Supporting special zone companies' overseas expansion
Daejeon City signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National University of Singapore (NUS), a world-leading institution in synthetic biology, for joint research and international cooperation in advanced biomanufacturing on the 12th.
This agreement aims to successfully operate Daejeon City's synthetic biology-based advanced biomanufacturing global innovation special zone project, which was finally designated in the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' public offering last May, and to build a global network for participating companies' rapid entry into overseas markets.
The two institutions agreed to actively support demonstration and joint research and development (R&D) for synthetic biology-based advanced biomanufacturing, cooperation in academic information and talent exchange, and local companies' new material development in the advanced bio sector and rapid technology commercialization.
Following the signing ceremony, a joint seminar was held with participation from agreement participating institutions, officials, and special zone participating companies. The seminar mutually introduced Daejeon and Singapore's bio ecosystems and established a cooperation foundation for companies' overseas expansion through technology presentations by special zone participating companies and inter-institutional networking.
Daejeon City Vice Mayor Choi Seong-ah said, "Through this agreement, we will do our best to help Daejeon grow into Korea's representative bio city leading the development of innovative new technologies and new materials."
