대장동 개발 비리 사건 항소 포기 논란에 책임을 지려는 것으로 보인다.

앞서 대장동 항소 시한인 지난 7일 항소장 제출만 남겨둔 시점에서 별도 설명 없이 검찰 지휘부가 항소를 막아서며 수사와 공판 담당 검사들이 반발했다.

유죄를 받은 민간업자 등이 모두 항소하면서 2심은 진행될 예정이지만, 검찰이 항소를 하지 않아 1심보다 무거운 형이 선고될 가능성은 사라졌다.

논란 발생 하루 만에 정진우 서울중앙지검장이 사의를 밝힌 데 이어 노 대행도 용퇴 의사를 공식화했다.

Acting Prosecutor General Roh Man-seok Expresses Intention to Resign

Acting Prosecutor General Roh Man-seok expressed his intention to resign on the 12th.

This appears to be an attempt to take responsibility for the controversy over abandoning the appeal in the Daejang-dong development corruption case.

Previously, on the 7th, the deadline for the Daejang-dong appeal, the prosecution leadership blocked the appeal without explanation just before the appeal document submission, leading to backlash from prosecutors in charge of investigation and trial.

While the second trial will proceed as all convicted private contractors have appealed, the prosecution's decision not to appeal eliminates the possibility of heavier sentences than the first trial.

Following prosecutor Jung Jin-woo, head of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, who expressed his intention to resign just one day after the controversy arose, Acting Prosecutor General Roh has also officially announced his intention to step down.
