◆ 귀농 30년, 새농민상 선정
충북농협(총괄본부장 이용선)은 11월 12일 '이달의 새농민상' 수상자로 옥천 청산농협(조합장 고내일) 조합원 서성구(65)·김미화(59) 부부를 확정했다. 서성구·김미화 부부는 1995년 귀농한 이래 지속해온 과학적 영농으로 지역 농업 모범사례가 됐다.
◆ GAP 인증과 직거래로 판가 1.5배 달성
부부는 귀농 초기부터 복숭아와 배를 재배하며 토양검사, 친환경 액비 생산 등을 실시했다. 농산물우수관리(GAP) 인증을 취득해 안전성 높은 생산 체계를 구축했다. 인터넷 직거래 등 다양한 유통망 확보로 일반 공판장 경락 가격 대비 1.5배의 판매가격을 달성했다. 옥천군복숭아협회 회원으로 품질 향상과 판로 확대에도 주도적으로 참여 중이다.
◆ 청년농업인 멘토로 지역 농업 인력 양성
부부는 귀농인 출신으로 후배 귀농·귀촌인을 지원하는 멘토 역할을 수행하고 있다. 청년 농업인 교육 강사로 참여해 지역 농업 인력 양성을 주도하고 있다. 부부는 "새농민회 회원으로서 지속 가능한 농업 발전을 위해 안전하고 건강한 먹거리 생산에 최선을 다하겠다"고 밝혔다.

Since their return to farming in 1995, the couple has established scientific farming practices and become a model case for regional agriculture.
◆ GAP Certification and Direct Sales Achieve 1.5 Times Market Price
The couple has cultivated peaches and pears since the early stages of their return to farming, conducting soil testing and producing eco-friendly liquid fertilizer. They obtained Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification to establish a high-safety production system. By securing various distribution channels including internet direct sales, they achieved a selling price 1.5 times higher than the general market price. As members of the Okcheon Peach Association, they actively participate in quality improvement and market expansion.
◆ Mentoring Young Farmers and Fostering Regional Agricultural Talent
The couple serves as mentors to successor farmers and returnees to farming communities, with backgrounds as returnees themselves. They participate as instructors in youth farmer education programs and lead regional agricultural workforce development. The couple stated, "As members of the New Farmers Association, we will do our best to produce safe and healthy food for sustainable agricultural development."
